Comments (53)Yep. FWIW at this point, I can understand. You had been planning a kitchen renovation, and in that renovation your dreams included a specific type of range, and then you decided not to renovate and the alternate plan landed you with something that was not quite what you had hoped for. It's natural to be a little disappointed. A "so close but yet so far" type of thing--and the money it's worth or even the gas vs. duel fuel is not really the issue. Whether it was the above referenced Hotpoint you wanted and you ended up with a Magic Chef, or you had your heart set on gas and ended up with electric--the fact that it's a hugely expensive stove is not the issue here. You were hoping for one thing and got something else. I think that your reaction is completely natural, and I think that you are getting over it--also completely natural. Like any other disappointment in life, you deal with it and move on. You just had a "moment" and shared it with the group, some of whom took it in stride and some who decided that it was a monetary issue, and that you don't have the right to be disappointed in something that expensive. :-) However, I think the best piece of advice that you received is to live with it awhile, put it through it's paces, and if it's really not performing the way you wanted it to, and you can afford it, swap it out for something that's closer to what you wanted. If I understand correctly, the dual fuel Wolf you wanted is not going to fit in the space you have anyway, so you might as well see if you can make this one work. Comments (22)I've had an Adv 240 for two years now and use it every day. I am an enthusiastic and adventurous cook of many years experience and I wouldn't want to have a kitchen without a 240 in it again. It's not that it cooks a chicken so fast (more than 10 minutes though, lol!) but that it eliminates many steps you would have to take with other methods of cooking for the same dish. For instance, I throw a cut-up whole chicken plus all the other ingredients for chicken cacciatore in a casserole at once, (well, not the pasta!) put on the lid, set the 3 Adv controls, press start and have a finished dish in about 30 minutes. I do stir it a couple of times but that's the sum total of my effort. It's tender, and browned and delicious, just as if I took two and a half hours to saute it stove top and then braise it in a conventional oven, the way I always used to do. It can cook filet mignon and paninis with equal ease. This morning I made a frittata and didn't have to flip it to brown the top. It does microwave and reheat as a separate function, which is no more difficult to use than a plain mic of any brand. On the negative side, the vent fan is noisier than I would like. Another big negative is the price. My dh nearly passed out when I insisted on this model. Can you get a look at a 240 cookbook somewhere (maybe there are some excerpts on the Adv website)? That will give you the best idea of how it works and what a time and effort saver it is. If you have any more ?s for me, I'll be glad to try to answer. Comments (91)By all means....NO, do not buy anything Viking. I worked there for over 10 years in management and the products are absolutely inferior. The company does NOT care about quality, they care about quantity. They will build and ship a broken product (well aware that it will fail in the customer's home, and ship it anyway). It's strictly ran by a couple of elite upper guys and if you buck what they say, you're fired. Just to give you an idea, we ran out of broiler pans (this is a part that goes in all ovens). I stopped the production line. One of the "elites" walked by and asked "why is the line off". I informed him that we were out of broiler pans. He said "You turn that line BACK ON and ship those ranges." Before doing so, I typed up a note that said "Dear customer, at the time your range was built, we were out of broiler pans. This only affects the broiler function. Please call us at 800-xxxxxxxx and we will gladly ship you the part at no cost." --- I then placed a copy of this note in each range. The "elite manager" walked by again, noticed the printout and asked "What the hell is this? Remove this paperwork and ship the ranges." This is only the tip of the iceberg. Oh, and ASKO does NOT make Viking dishwashers (anymore). They are made by Viking in Greenwood, MS and guess what? They just had a recall on them for catching on FIRE! You can see this recall info if you go to Viking's website (home page), look at the very bottom, you will see a link that says "Safety recall" in blue text. There, you will also find recalls on other products including about 25,000 refrigerators which had VERY heavy doors that fell off and injured several people. Comments (4)Hope you can live with inevitable marks. We have blueberry jelly stains on ours now. If you want a showplace kitchen could you inset a section of something fireproof into the butcherblock? A glass or ceramic piece for example? We have butcherblock on both sides of range and laminate elsewhere. We know that we need to put hot stuff on the rangetop or a hotpad or such, but somebody else might not. That's the chance we take. We have a pull-out work surface right there, which we put hot cookie sheets and such on. If it gets burned, it will be cheaper to replace than a countertop yet we might not bother. (We burned one of our pullout boards in our old kitchen. Ugly, but we could push it out of sight while continuing to use it daily. We finally turned it over and kept using it.)
