bird feeder to keep birds, off cherries.
Comments (3)Maybe the tree just needs to get bigger ? I remember tons of birds and tons of cherries my growing up years at grandmas. Her trees were large, but we could use ladders and I climbed waaay up. We had plenty to make pies and put up for winter. My tree now is so old and huge, the only way I get any cherries are when the birds are kind enough to drop a few for me to pick up. I try to remember to always say thank you. As it stands, you have nothing to loose by experimenting with adding feeders. Currently I'm mostly winning in getting the squirrels to leave my finch feeders alone by feeding them separately each morning. They have me well trained. ;) This post was edited by plaidbird on Sun, May 11, 14 at 16:17...See MoreHow to keep the deer away from new buds !!!
Comments (12)Fencing is always your best bet, and it can take many forms. I had a "deer proof" border (mostly deer resistant plants), that included some delicious roses. To protect the roses, I used a single strand electric fence around the bushes. I baited it with peanut butter smeared on aluminum foil. They never bothered the roses. I put it on a timer so it was off during the day and I wouldn't have to worry about getting shocked myself. I also put up a few isolated electric loops attached to a pole with the same bait (modeled after a similar product on the market). No deer tracks were seen in this border or in my yard. They even left the pansies alone. May not work in an area with heavier deer pressure or if they were starving....See MoreKeep Squirrels Away From Feeders

Comments (25)I've had a slinky around my shepherd's hook for two summers now. It has Not stopped the squirrels. At first it did, but they figured out how to leap on putting their little paws in between the slinky rings and scale that shepherd's hook anyway and hang on it, stretch it out, and eat away. This year I found them laying across the rooftop of the bird feeder reaching down eating the cakes. So, I have found that sprinkling a little cayenne pepper on the cakes definitely works! So I put it across the roof too. But it goes away soon because the birds eats it off the surfaces. So I turned to putting olive oil on the post. That works beautifully! Of course, when it rains you have to reapply (we've had a lot lately) & that can be daunting. But Worth It because it is SO Satisfying & Funny to see them sliding down the pole and looking SHOCKED!...See Moreprairie_love
