Yesterday my 18 month old DS woke up with a strange, red dotty (and sometimes pimply) rash all over his hands, feet, and knees. He was sick about a week ago so I took him to our doctor yesterday afternoon. DR ruled out baby measles, chicken pox, hand-foot-mouth disease, etc., and pretty much told me that he didn't know what it was, but that it should go away within a day. But, today the rash looks the same, if not worse on DS' feet- it doesn't seem to be itchy or bothering him, do any of you have any idea what it could be? Should I take him back to the DR. Any responses greatly appreciated! Kyla.

Has it spread to other areas of his body? My DD got a similar rash after being sick, except hers covered more area. Hers was Roseola, and lasted almost a week.

Has he been in contact with anything new? If he's walked and/or crawled across a different kind of surface he might have a contact dermitis allergy.

I've been researching on-line, and it appears that some people can be allergic to oils or sap from vegetable leaves, including zuch and squash-family (also tomato and carrot). The rash or irritation tends to be worse where your skin actually comes in contact with the plant because the little spiky bristles on the plant break the skin and the toxins get in, but apparently it is possible to also spread it when you get particles on your hands and touch other places on your body, like with poison ivy. Long sleeves/pants, gloves, and a bandana around your neck help, and the "wash gently afterwards" is good too. I still get some irritation even through long sleeves and pants, but I'm not wearing super thick material in the summer heat. But what we're experiencing is worse that what other people (who aren't allergic/sensitive to the plants) experience from the bristles scraping them.

I get the same thing from the Georgia clay soil here if left on my skin for too long. When I was a child in suburbs of Chicago I once got hives from playing in the snow. My mom rushed me to the doctor. They said I had an allergy to snow. I know that sounds crazy, but later I chalked it up to it being snow made of acid rain. When I moved to Georgia I get the same reaction to the clay soils. So my theory is I have a PH allergy to the acidicness of the clay soil. I just came inside after it happening now. It a weird way it’s good to hear others have this strange allergy. I was edging with an edger that has a blade cutter on it not the plastic string. It spit up some soil on my sweat covered leg and clung there. After a while it felt like I was standing in a fire ant mound covered in bites.

Bamboo dermatitis? Rash?

A couple of weeks ago I cut down a bunch of Native American Bamboo to make a trellis and afterwards I see a rash resembling poison ivy on my forearm which was odd because I've never had a reaction to it or poison oak ect and always have been an outdoor person in the woods camp hike. It burned I had welps and then tiny blisters plus itching in later stage before drying up. Fast forward to today I was using the same already cut and dried bamboo for crafts and my forearm that had carried it broke out just like before so I realized it was the bamboo not poison ivy! Last time I used hydrocortisone cream and it seemed to dry it up so here I go again. The last rash just has disappeared from 2 wks ago so I'm guessing another 2 wks to heal. Someone compared it to the feeling of fiberglass getting in your skin I agree the glass shard like feel but more burn with bamboo. Lesson learned....maybe

"This is a perfect example of what is so scary and frustrating, is there are so many radicals out there willing to hide information and refuse to answer honest to goodness common sense questions from Americans." It seems to me the true radicals are all the anti science, anti vax , people who grasp whatever exaggeration, scare story or lie is out there in social media land and take it for gospel instead of actually spending time looking at real numbers and real evidence. No real information is being hidden, but a lot of false information is being created and circulated to confuse and distress people. Anti vaxxers aren't interested in the truth. I include in that group quite a few doctors who apparently haven't read a medical journal since they left med school.

A rash 'after' a brief illness is usually roseola. My DD had it at about 13 months. The great thing is, roseola is like chicken pox - once you've had it, you're resistant to getting it again.

sounds like roseola to me-very common after they have been sick.

WOW.. This is the SAME thing our SON has!!! He had it for about 2 days we took him to the DR. His Ped had no idea what it was, they only thought VERY dry skin.

The Ped had us give him anti-itch med over the counter(sorry, can't think of the name) and rub Eurechin cream on him. We did that for 2 days and it did not get better as a matter of fact it got worse. We took him to the hosipital per our Ped. The ER doc stated it was exima (SP?) and gave him a shot of Steriods. That help him a lot and cleared up in a matter of hours. However 3 days later it came back.

It was all over his chest, legs, ears, everywhere. We took him back to his Ped and she prescribed Steriods and a anit itch liquid. It cleared up by that night.

We also had the Ped draw blood and we are having him tested for allergies, i.e. Milk, Eggs, etc.

I hope this helps others.

PS. I am not too happy about giving him Steriods, however, it is for a short time.
