oil of oregano for ear infections?
Comments (16)"So before subjecting a child to elimination of a large number of items that are part of a healthy diet, it would be a good idea to look at other, well-understood risk factors first." Hmm, I disagree with this. There is nothing in dairy that is critical to human development and health that cannot be found in another source. My children, and this will probably blow your mind, have never eaten any dairy products. They also do not have any kinds of developmental issues. On the contrary, they are above average developmentally according to the regular visits with our pediatrician. They have also never had an ear infection and have never needed any antibiotics or medication of any sort. The only thing they have ever suffered from is mild colds or flu. While this is a small sample size it demonstrates, to me at least, that there are ways to grow healthy children without dairy products. As I understand it the benefit from elimination (or reduction) of dairy is to reduce the production of mucus. There are other foods that can increase mucus production as well (wheat for example). This can help when you get a cold, sinus infection, etc. from turning into an ear infection. Commonly, mucus will get trapped in the middle ear and become a petri dish for bacteria resulting in an infection. I think it is sound advice to recommend removing dairy from the diet as long as any lacking nutrition is compensated with another non-dairy source. This method was used by my parents and grand parents with everyone in our family. So, as far as I am concerned it works....See Moreear infection---strange
Comments (5)His ear lobe fell off in his hand?? How strange that must have been. I'd have totally freaked. I have known two people with amyloidosis. One woman's brain was affected and she did not live long. Another man had it another organ (liver of kidney?). He lived with it for quite a few years. He received chemotherapy for it. I think he traveled to The Cleveland Clinic for treatment, but got his chemo locally (Philadelphia). I believe it is a build up of proteins and can affect different parts of the body....See Moreear infection
Comments (2)I agree with agnes. You need to take ALL of the antibiotics for the prescribed period - usually 7 days, sometimes 10 days. You're not doing yourself a favor by switching back and forth to different antibiotics. The bacteria may not respond to either of them because you haven't taken them ALL AS PRESCRIBED. Another thing, if you don't take it as prescribed and have patience, you can get a ruptured eardrum from too much infection. If you see a discharge of blood or pus from the ear, this could indicate a ruptured eardrum. By not taking your medicine the proper way (as precribed) you are prolonging the infection. Long-lasting ear infections can cause short-term hearing loss, long-term hearing loss, or ruptured eardrum....See More2 month old and ear infection?
Comments (3)Look at her behavior as if it were 'symptoms.' Does she seem to be in pain, or ill? (Having an ear infection, and grabbing the ear even can be painful for older children and for adults.) Is she feeding as usual, with the usual rate of wet and dirty diapers? If 'allergies' and/or asthma run in the biological relatives, your baby would have one risk factor in a general sense for developing ear infections. External ear infections can happen (with a baby, with that thumb thing and/or with bathing... older children would get 'swimmer's ear' as an external ear infection). Those would look different to a doctor, and they would require antibiotics but probably as ear drops and not as drops by mouth. Middle ear infections are the ones that would require antibiotics by mouth. These infections are more common where there are ear drainage problems structurally, or as a result of lots of fluid (allergies, colds, etc). A little fluid that won't drain can serve as a growth medium for bacteria behind the ear drum. Any extra fluid and pressure problems can feel 'funny' or 'weird.' A baby feeling those kinds of effects is likely therefore to grab at their ears. Usually, of course, the fluid drains as any cold or allergy symptoms resolve and although there can be some time of weird ear feelings there usually would be no infection. But, sometimes there is a progression to an ear infection and that weird or funny feeling can go to painful... and increasingly painful until it is unbearable. Watch her for signs she may be in pain and you will probably catch any ear infection problem in a timely manner (before it gets to the ever increasing pain point)...See MoreLYNN3521_aol_com
