My 15 month has figured out the cupboard locks!

Hello. My 15 month son has found out how to open the locks on our cupboards. They are the kind where you have to push down on the latch and then it opens. Does anyone have any different kind of locks that work? Thank you.

i use the ones that go on the outside and link your two doors together. you have to push down one part to slide it off the other parts. i like them because once ds is in bed, i can take them off and use the doors like a normal person again. my 16mo old pulls at them, but hasn't opened them yet.

My son figured all of the plastic locks out by 18 months, including the ones mentioned by Adrienne_11. We have moved all of the "bad" things to a few higher cabinets and put a combo lock on that, and pretty much taught him not to go into the others by saying "no, no, you're not supposed to go in there". This way, if he ever goes exploring in the upper cabinets, he'll never get it open, and we have a place that is definately OOB. You can never tell what they are going to do. My son is 3 and my daughter is 16 months. She doesn't bother with the cabs or drawers because we have told her no. He, when he was younger, tried as hard as he could to get into everything. We bought all kinds of child safe locks, and he figured every last one out. He's pretty smart, and likes to explore. But, now, he has a better understanding of what is a no no. It's just when they explore. They may never go in the cabinets and then one day, all of the sudden, there they are, on a step stool, climbing up on the cabinets, pulling out the china. We just know that the chemicals are dangerous, and some other things, that's what we keep locked up. We don't want to find out the hard way that my son found the drano.

I know, that's why I'm so worried my whole crop will disappear without my being able to do anything about it. This is definitely a stealth "critter." Stems are eaten right down to the ground along with the leaves, which are *not* skeletonized. The photo shows the first typical phase: large chunk gone one day, bigger chunk later or the next day, gobbled down to the grround the next, then the next leaf gets started on and when that's gone, the next plant. You know how leaf miners love spinach and chard, laying their eggs inside and killing the leaves? Well, I was wondering if anyone knew what loves to eat chard like this. Some bugs love certain things. Nothing has touched my leaf lettuce sitting right next to the chard. Whatever it is likes chard and not lettuce. I've lived here for six months now and I've never laid eyes on a rabbit. I'm home most of the day, too, and see my garden from my kitchen window.

At 15 months a child is able to learn what no means. The trouble is that you started out wrong and it's harder to get the message across when you are trying to undo rather than teach. First check into childproof devices like outlet covers that enclose the plug and all, cupboard locks and doorknob covers. These will keep your child safe without hassle. Put things that you want to keep safe or are dangerous beyond reach if possible. When he goes near the stove say hot--you'll get a boo boo or what ever you say for a sore. Find a place where he can be confined but yet see you and call it the naughty corner or whatever and when he misbehaves put him there for a minute or so if he doesn't heed your warning that he is being naughty. Afterward get on his level and tell him why he was being punished. Don't put him in the playpen for punishment if you want him to play in it. The punishment place should be used just for punishment, so he gets the right idea. You must do this EVERY time he does the same thing so he gets the message. Letting things lapse once or twice will tell him you are not really serious. I know it will be a hassle but if you follow through he will get the message.Consistancy is the key and I can't stress that enough Start with the thing that you would most like to curb. If you think he is too young to understand he's not. Before my son was crawling, I put red sticker dots on dangerous things. Every time we passed one I would point to it and say no-danger that will hurt John. He never touched anything with a dot when he started to crawl, but he would point to them and shake his head no. I never put a dot on anything that wasn't dangerous just because I didn't want him to touch it though and my honesty paid off. I wish you luck

Calm down, Sue. I hope you don't feel I was flaming you because I sure didn't mean to. I was saying I hated last minute customers when I was in the restaurant business so I don't go late. Even though I agreed with you, I still had some sympathy for the employees. The bottom line is you are right, and no one can dispute that even if their answers weren't quite as matteroffact as the simplicity of the subject. The sign said 8:30, so the door should not be locked until 8:30. To each their own in the way they do things. I don't arrive so late and others don't either, but many people do. Really not that big a deal. But, please don't let it all rile you like this. Not everyone agrees is all.

I also think re-potting them separately would be a good idea. If it were me, I'd use a knife and nick or scrape most of the stems near the bottom. I might even apply some rooting hormone powder to the place I scraped/nicked. Then, I'd bury it deeper, with potting mix covering the scraped/nicked areas on the stems. Give it a couple months, and you could carefully dig things up. If the branches have rooted, you can cut them away from the main plant and have more plants that way. Also, rosemary and sage need really good drainage, and really don't need as much organic material and fertilizer. I add sand or perlite to 'potting mix' for rosemary and sage, about two parts potting mix to one part sand and/or perlite. You can also use commercial "cactus potting mix" if you don't want to mix your own.

How about those magnetic key locks?

We keep everything that DS can't be in up high; but boy, it can be a pain when he's pulled out every pot, pan, and bag of pretzels!

We got desperate and tried some unusual things. Plastic clothing hangers worked well when looped over our handles. Another thing was THICK rubber bands. The tension was too much for DS to pull off or pull the doors open.

Good Luck. Oh yes I also left the tupperware door unlocked at all times. Gave the kids a cupboard they could go into.
