I wish I would have timed how long it took me to read every single one of these posts. My beloved cats are destroying my house. I'm single, working, commuting, and losing my mind trying to clean it and get them to stop. I think that a fair number of these posts are written by SHILLS, which I find despicable. People like me are going through hell. Not only is there a mess, it's a smelly, toxic mess, and it's caused by my children. Yes, they are my children, and I can't just get rid of them. I, too, want to chime in and say that Nature's Miracle does NOT work. I'm fine with ripping up the carpet and starting over, but even that is going to be so incredibly difficult and time consuming. After reading all of this, and not having very nice carpet, I've decided to rip up my carpet, but I wish all of you cat lovers the best of luck in trying to eradicate the stains if you do want to keep your carpet. There isn't much on this thread about preventative measures to stop cats from doing this in the first place, but I encourage everyone to visit some reputable sites to deal with that as well. I've listed some below. Please don't ever think your cat is angry or vindictive or something like that. Cats don't have those types of emotions. Educate yourself and respond appropriately, but be careful of opinions in forums. Look to the experts for advice. I so very much appreciate the time people took to offer solutions. Thank you. I also want to recommend a money saving litterbox filler that will encourage you to keep up with cleaning it, as well as keep the smell at bay. My cats' issues have to do with new cats in the home, age and illness - not the use of this litter. I use plain wood pellets (no scent!), bought at Menard's or Fleet Farm type places. They're sold as woodstove fuel, as well as pet bedding. I second that advice. Buy a lot of nature's miracle and pour it on liberally; then let it sit in the carpet for weeks. Be patient. The enzymes in it eventually digest/break down organic substances like urine, poop, vomit etc. You can buy it online or at pet stores.

I guess my question is a bit more "out of the box": why would you worry about urine on a restaurant kitchen floor? And if you are talking about porcelain/ceramic, it is the GROUT that grabs stains and odours. If you are worried about urine in a kitchen (human? Dog? Cat? Bird?), then make sure you work with a sealed grout (so long as it is allowed by the tile maker).

How would you put a carpet into a freezer? I am so slap happy to not have any captive animals in my house anymore. I had always had cats. Most often they were indoor/outdoor but I did keep a box for them because I always tried to make sure that they were inside at night and of course in cold weather. I loved my cats but am overjoyed at not having to deal with that anymore. One place that one of my cats took to using still smelled for years after she was gone and I will bet, if you put your nose to that area, you might still catch a whiff. When I was growing up I never heard of keeping a cat inside. As a middle aged adult I came to live in a community where the complete opposite was true. I never liked having a caged or house bound animal and will never do that again. Can you imagine living your entire life in the house? Even for a cat that sounds soul crushing. Visited with some old friends over the weekend. They always had cats, no kids. They currently. have 7 cats in the house. They used to keep all of their cats inside and I was surprised to see that they are actually letting them come and go in and out. They have a very small old fashioned town house and there were cats coming out of very corner. I have always loved the company of cats but husband dislikes them being in his space. It is a legacy of his early upbringing and not rooted in any real logic, I think. I loved my cats, but want no more, ever.
