Sounds like you had lots and lots of the Asian ladybug that was around in mass numbers a few years ago in New England, several years ago as my 28 year old daughter was still in school then. If I remember the story correctly, they where imported to this country to help out with insect control and it was believed that they didn't survive. It was found that they had and in mass numbers and they, more than the ladybugs that were here all along, have an attraction to light colored exterior homes, especially white, as well as white walls and in the fall they would cover both inside and outside of light colored homes in mass droves, looking for entryways into the home for the winter. My home is white exterior and the walls of my daughters room where white at the time and her bedroom was on a west facing side of the house. All disaster for her and her room. Her room was infested with the beetles and I was vacuuming them up in her room, the walls, the floors the furniture, even in her bed for about 3 weeks and then they where gone. Gone, that is, until the spring. Then these wonderful asian ladybugs reappeared all over the inside of her room as if I had never vacuumed them up. they where coming out of any and all crevices that they had gone into for the winter and we had to keep her bedroom windows open and the screens up all day, every day for about a week. Since that year, and it seems to me that she was in middle school then, we have not had a problem like that repeat itself. We just would get the occasional ladybug in the house. That is as long as I didn't need them to eat the aphids. The years that I did, well none where to be seen. A was talking with a friend of ours that is a farmer and he reminded me of one method to try and keep some ladybugs around over the winter for next year. Get some corn stalks, if you don't grow corn, or use your own if you do. Let them dry out, and then place them on top of your garden beds in the fall. You only need a couple of stalks per bed and you can cut them down to fit the bed if need be. Leave them there all winter and spring until you are ready to clean up the beds. Apparently ladybugs love to stay under and around the corn stalks for the winter and come spring, are very content that you provided them a place to winter over and will stay in your beds. Take a deep breath. This might be easier for us to read. I am a desperate mother of a 3 year old and everything I do doesnÂt work. He refuses to talk when IÂm around but if IÂm not there heÂs talking with no problem. HeÂs a good boy for everyone else. He can be at grandmas, his uncleÂs, or his godparents, even my fiancéÂs motherÂs house and he talks and he listens, very rarely pitches fits (which is all the time when IÂm around). As soon as I walk in he starts acting up, not listening, getting into things that he knows heÂs not supposed to get into. He wonÂt ask for anything, he whines all the time no matter how much attention I give him. It seems like its never enough. I work with him on his word books, he still acts like he canÂt talk and I know he can, its so aggravating. We have tried everything we can think of. He has a naughty chair when he is bad; he has to sit in it. That doesnÂt work, he keeps getting up or screaming, and we have a "neighbor" that lives upstairs from us and has called CPS on us because of his fits and his screaming fits. we cannot move at this moment because of how bad the economy is. But now because of CPS and their threats we are afraid to punish him and I know he knows that. These people came in my house and told me in no uncertain terms that I could not punish him in any way. The only thing I can do is give him a timeout, and IÂm sorry but in my opinion TIMEOUTS only work on a small fraction of children. My fiancé spends as much time with my son as he can because his biological father isnÂt there for him, (he knows my fiancé as daddy heÂs been the only daddy heÂs known for way over a year and a half). His behavior is out of control and its me and I donÂt know what to do anymore. I just want him to listen and talk. I feel its my fault cause after his "father" walked out on him I think I overcompensated. I would watch my son stand in front of my living room window looking and waiting for that ***hole to show up to come get him (sometimes up to 3 hours). He would just blow my son off and not come, no phone call, no nothing. Because I felt so bad for my son I lacked on the "rules" and now its come back to bite me and I donÂt know how to correct it. My guess is its dehydrated but otherwise I would think it's essentially the same as when you left it. I'd just add water and use... picking right back up where you left off.... however it may take a couple weeks to get the microbiology up to speed, so throwing some "fresh" organics on top of the bedding or mixed in would help in this regard. Of course you will likely have to add worms if you intend to get back into worm farming as I doubt the cocoons will have survived 3 years without moisture.

Is your attic finished, or do you have only boards over the floor joists. Homes of this age can be balloon construction, meaning you could drop a line from the attic and it would go through to basement level. I'm not a pro, but looked into foam injected (via outside) for a mid century home and was told that if foam was used, it would fill up wall cavities, making access to future electrical work very difficult. I opted for blown in cellulose by a highly reputable company who filled all voids to avoid heat loss, and installed a sealing attic entry door with vertical sides to preclude movement of cellulose.
