DD calls for older brother, Eek (Eric). When she sees the school from the van window she knows we are picking him and starts yelling for him. When DS was younger it "MY Eek." The love their big brother!
She also has a liking for bananas. She's like a little monkey! She calls them "nanana" and gets so excited as I peel it she makes "OO OO OO" noises! Just like a monkey!
DS#1 had his own variation of helicopter, humidopter.
The other day my son, out of the blue, pointed to himself and said "boy". I told him "that's right, you are a boy, mommy is a girl, and daddy is a boy". He looked at me, very seriously, and said "NO, daddy MAN". Daddy is teaching him well, LOL.
As far as mispronouncing words, my favorite is "cha-pup"... translation: Ketchup.
And my nearly-7-y-o says that all balloons "faint" eventually.
Some of them, I've decided, I can just start using, and thereby preserve them.
My son's nickname at daycare is Grant-a-roonie. When he was asked what his last name was ("Grant what?") he said, "Grant a roonie!" Don't tell my father in law, the family patriarch!
And Daddy's name "Daddy Smith" (Grant Smith, Grace Smith,...)
My 3 1/2 yo DS puts a "bee" in front of things lately: beescetti (spagetti), beesanga (lasanga), beegoon (lagoon), etc, etc. 2 yo DD has loads of them. Her brother Andrew is "Dijou", her sister Erin is "A". Then there's chocit (chocolate), Cray (come on- as in: Cray, Dijou), peetzee (pizza). For a while there she called her Nana "Bananana".
I have a 12 1/2 month old. We are in the d and b words right now... boon (moon), dit (sit), ditty dat (kitty cat), bapbaw (Papaw), dat (what's that), does (nose), dare (there), and rye dare (right there).
Loved reading all the great words! My 3 year old was talking the other day and said "Mommy, you have a ring and Daddy has a ring." I asked her "So what does that mean honey?" (trying to ellicit that we are married). She said "That means you're the boss!" I laughed so hard! And of course, I immediately asked her to repeat it for Daddy!
When my daughter was little I used to put her hair up in a French roll. One day she came in with the brush and bobby pins and asked me to make her a "French Cassarole".
My son is now 20 months and has been saying "backet ball" for at least 4-5 months, well he just started saying popsicle and the only reason I knew he wasn't saying "backet ball" was because he was pointing at the freezer! So cute! We have also been trying to get him to say please, but instead he says "hep me" (help me). I have no idea where he got that from!
Just a cute story: My 3 y.o told my husband, "Mommy put margarine on the wall to fix the hole!!" Well, my husband couldn't figure out what she was talking about until he realized I had Spackled a hole in our wall and my daughter thought it looked like margarine.
My 4 year old son and 3 year old daughter found a cucoon. So we were talking about it turning into a butter fly. My daughter was starting to poke at it. Then my son said, "Don't do that, you will break his coconut!" It was cute.
"PEEZ" for Please. And I'm not all together will happy with this one, especially in public "FRUCK" for Truck, but he doesn't always pronounce the r...YIKES!! I had an granmotherly type woman in Wal-Mart laugh at him, when he said it, and it was funny. And his baby sister name is AnnaMarie, he calls her "Annie", so needless to say, that's gonna be her nickname. Now, he thinks all babies are "Annie"..LOL!!!
I went in a store and left my then 2 year old in the van with his Grandfather. When I got back, Pop said that a not- so-attractive lady got out of the car that parked in front of them (teeth missing, facial hair, etc. - You get the picture.) My son said, "Look, Pop, a hairy codger!" We don't use words like that, so my dad was stunned! He turned around to see my little boy pointing up in the sky at the "hairy codger" --- a helicopter! Talk about a hilarious coincidence!!!
We just went to the zoo this week - the otters were "fish puppies", the sea lions were "fish horsies", and the penguins were "fish birdies." We laughed until we cried - and so proud of her thinking. She's 20 months.
My son is two years old and loves to tell people about his upcoming "Hairplane" flight. Of course he doesn't stop there, he'll tell you were going to see "Gace" (his cousin, Grace) to tell her "Happy Birdie!"
Not mine, but this is still one of my favorites... I was babysitting a 4 year old (whose father drove a Ferrari, btw). One day we were sitting on the couch when a huge thunderstorm started. I asked her if she heard the thunder, and she said "no, that's just my daddy, driving down the street!"
We are teaching the oldest (age 7) to behave appropriatley in the company of ladies. He was doing fake belches and I reminded him that I was a lady and that was not appropriate behavior in front of ladies.
My 2 year old piped up "You no a wady, you a momma." Too cute.
One of my buddies uses the expression oooooo----faaaaaaa, from the Sopranos i think. Anyhow my 3 yr old daughter and i were tossing a ball back and forth, she got hit in the chest and all i heard her say was ""OOOOOOOO---faaaaaaaaa !!!!It was hysterical...
My friends husband let her 2 year old watch pinkie and the brain, out of her big brothers collection. My friend must have put an end to that, because one day when I came over, the 2 year old marched her stern little self right over to me and said.. i want broders brain and plopped herself on the floor.
My 23 month old use choc for chocolate and says bucky for butt. She hears us tell the older kids that we are gonna spank their butts and she says "my bucky"
My son, who's 33 months looked at his grandma and said as clear as a bell..."Gramma, do you know 'bout my situation?" It cracked us all up!! Around that same time, Gramma had read the same book about 600 times and thought that she'd shake it up a bit and adlib, he stopped her after she'd turned the page and said,"you forgot to say disgraceful". His talking is great, now if he could be this good on the potty!! I guess somethings gotta give :-/
my two year old sings "Mary had a metal man, metal man" and "Do you know the muppin man, muppin man. Take the key and lock her rock. for lock her up. It's sounds so funny!
My 2 year old daughter is real big into possesion and everything is "mine" or "hors" (yours). My husband and I always crack up because it sounds like "whores" to us. And she will ask me "Whores Mommy, Whores?" and if there is a "bitz" (barrette) involved, it is "Mommy, Whores Bitz." Which sounds really bad the way she lisps out the end of "bitz".....
Instead of saying please, my 19 mo. old blows out really hard, like she's blowing out candles. We have no idea where she got it from, we're thinking since we blow on her food and then tell her to say please, maybe she picked it up from that. Who knows! Another favorite translation: "Poopee" for her Papaw, he gets the biggest kick out of it!! :-)
my 2 yr old niece likes to blow the dried dandelions and make wishes. sometimes, she picks one that is still green, blows and then tells you, "not working". it's hilarious.
My son and a three year old I watch once in awhile were playing "cops and robbers"...when the boy was pretending to talk on the walkie talkie to let us know the bad guys were coming he kept saying "the robbers are coming...do you coffee (copy)...do you coffee...over" I was laughing so hard...sounded like something they would say on Rugrats.
Nichole, I LOVE the way they talk on Rugrats! I was looking forward to seeing the new Rugrats "All growed up" and I missed it. I think it's almost as much fun for the kids to watch as it is for the adults :)
Last week I was in a shoe store with my three year old. He is going through a stage where he has to know everyone's name(cashiers, bank tellers, nieghbors etc.) While shopping he turned to a lady standing next to us and asked the ususal "what's your name?" She answered "Peggy". He smiled and replied "you're silly. What's your name?" She repeated her name again and he became serious and told her "No, you're not a piggy!" We both laughed. That same day we were in Wal Mart and my son saw a man approaching in one of those electric shopping chairs that look like a wheelchair. He moved over so he was right in the man's path and had to stop. My son said excitedly, "Wow, I like your bike!! Can you get off and let me ride a little bit?" Needless to say, I hope the two strangers were understanding because I sure got a kick out of it.
I picked up one of those 100 ft measuring tapes for my 30 month old son to give to his Dad for Father's Day. On the big day, I told him to go in and say "Happy Father's Day" to his daddy and give him his present. Now he always wants me to get out the "Happy Father's Day" to play with! Can't convince him otherwise, either.....
O dont they grow so fast... Since I posted last my 2 yr old is really jabbering. Foo Foo for Blues Clues. DaDa for Barney. powers for flowers. And her 9 yo sister who is terrified of bugs has her squealing and saying "git boog."
