Structure in Pre-k?

My son is in pre-school this year and this fall begins pre-k. He will be older because he misses the cut off and will be 5 in November. I was wondering what an average day of school consists of in other schools. I have questions regarding the academic portion of the day. Should they at this age be advancing each child individualy or will they just teach everyone the same thing even if they already know them. I don't have a genius or anything but he already knows and regonizes the letters, colors , shapes and numbers to 20. He can count to 100 without help. So just wondering if they will or should be taking him to the next level or should I not expect this? There is plenty he needs practice on writing, social etc...

Why don't you sit down with someone at the school, maybe the Pre-K teacher and ask them. I doubt it's structured like "regular" school, probably much more like nursery school. If you don't like it, don't send him. Good luck.

Keep him in pre-K. It is the social maturity that is so important, IMHO. He will do just fine.

Personally, more in the 250 plus range IMO. New electric and plumbing...I just did a 2100 sq ft town house in a high cost area and the electrical came in around 50K, plumbing about 20K. And it probably was easier to deal with than what you have there because there was no removal of old stuff (nothing not up to code). Bathrooms, are you going to do them right, or just do them? Between 5 and 50K depending on the side and materials (five would be if you could save flooring and existing features in place so no major plumbing moves). Kitchen...I suppose 50K could do it The floors need to be sanded and refinished don't they? * to 10 grand??? I'm afraid of the signs of water damage near the new windows and what it can do to the brick... Ok all that said, can you get it at a price to make that make sense? If so, cool property :) If not....well maybe the next one (for the record I like the pink tub LOL)

I wasn't confused about the railing vs. stairs, that was quite clear in the original post. But it sounds like you signed a contract with an open ended price after getting a second contractor bid for $4800 and now the first one is saying $11-$14K. Wow. I like what GN Builders said, get more estimates. I recently got 4 bids for mudjacking a sinking driveway, and they varied from $978 to $4600. Not taking either the high or the low - it's going to be about $2k. Incredible what stuff costs. But unless you do it yourself or have a woodworker friend, you're at the mercy of the market. If you have kids, get them interested in mechanical trades, either as a hobby or career. You'll help increase the labor pool and competition, and they can do stuff for you free. :-D

Thank you! I did sign him up for Pre-K this fall. Our school district has full day kindergarden, so I did not want to stop our routine of getting ready for school and his way of behaving in a shool setting.

My focus for choose a preschool was to have well qualified teacher (with degrees in education). These teachers were able to build learning into the fun activities that my older preschooler loved. Structure is not the issue, but developmental programming is.

Another option is to find a classroom that includes older peers, like your son.
