| My little girl is so bright and knows how to use the bathroom, but for some reason is always wetting herself. It happens at home and at school. She doesnt even mind it, and will lie to your face when you ask her if she has, even when you smell it. I have tested her for bladder infection and diabetes. nothing. she would rather keep playing her toys than get up and go. i cant keep enough underwear to satisfy her. she will use the bathroom as well, and does even get up in the nite go. so she knows how. is she just lazy? i dont know what to do. i dont want to put her back in pullups, but should i to embarass her at school?

| Well... I'll tell you how we handled this. My daughter was doing the exact same thing. I tried a variety of rewards... Stars on a chart... little toys for volunteering to go to the potty... praise, etc. Nothing really worked consistently. Then my mom said, "You should try taking something away." NOT my idea of the way to do things. So we soldiered on for a while. Then one day, while sopping up another "mistake", I decided I'd had enough. I took all of her Lion King lions, (about 12) and put them out of reach. I told her she could have them back one at a time when she used the potty. No more mistakes. Ever. It was traumatic for me, but it really didn't bother her past the initial shock. And it worked! But again, not an idea I would have thought up myself. |
