twin bed or full bed for a toddler

I am trying to find out what would be better for a toddler a twin bed or a full bed size? we bought a twin bed for our daugher who is 33 months old and my husband keeps insisting that we need to switch it to a full size for the long term. the manager at the furniture store is willing to make the switch. I think that even for long term a twin is okay, but I am open to a full size since it would probably be more comfortable for her in later years. I can't make a decision at this point becuase I also think a twin is more than enough and she will be able to use it until she is probably 13 or 14. any ideas, suggestions.

I really need help in making this decision since I need to get back to the store manager with my choice. Please help!!

There is no way any kid "needs" a full sized bed.
But when they get older it is kind of fun for sleepovers.

We have all our kids in full size beds. I know it not something that they need however we are very frugal with money. We knew that eventually they would all move into bigger beds so we figured to just save the money now by not buying twin and having to buy again later. The full size is great for sleepovers and the kids love to share beds with each other.

Have you tried offering a reward for staying in her bed all night? As far as transitioning to the new bed, let her help pick out her new bedding so she has some involvement. You might pick out a couple of options in advance and let her choose from those other she might go off on a whole new theme. Brag up how she is such a big girl to get the new bed. Have you friends and neighbors brag her up too. My kids liked to turn the light on too. I fixed the problem by getting (I don't know what this is called) a thing I could screw into the light socket. It sort of looks like a light socket. You can buy them at Wal-Mart back by the light switch covers. Anyway, it had a pull chain on it (some come with an extra outlet). I would just turn the light off at the bulb every night so flipping the switch didnt work. I put a night light in the extra outlet so the kids can't reach it. I would move the furniture away from the light switch so she doesn't have a reason to be climbing. Since your dd seems to enjoy her time in isolation, I would probably leave the door open. Give her a consequence for every time she wanders out. You may have to take away a toy or some other action. Don't sit and talk to her. Make a simple statement and return her to bed. After the first time, just use a gesture and no words. Don't let her have the attention she's wanting. If she knows you mean business, she'll quit. Good luck! She will get over this.

Thanks all. We were going to do the toddler thing too. I had posted before about toddler beds and decided to skip it. But then, as we shopped my dh kept wanting to buy proper bed furniture (not just the mattress and boxspring) and he's a carpenter, so he liked all the wood ones. I wanted an Ikea type bed - low to the ground, probably with one mattress (no boxspring). We couldn't decide. When we saw this bed... we just fell in love. Anywya, maybe it was stupid and hasty, but I'm stuck with it now. (Hindsight is great eh?) So, I've stuffed the one side for now and there's no way he can get out, and I've got a giant couch like chair (that we usually read stories in) agains the other side. Either I'll customize the regular rails as suggested above, or get my hubby to rig something up. Hopefully, ds isn't too traumatized by it! Ugh. Ad

Look at Goodwill or the Habitat Re-store. But truthfully, if he's 75 lbs he doesn't need removable railings to keep him in the bed.

Back in the day we're talking the 70's, my dad set out to buy me a beautiful well made white bedroom suit. Much to his horror while shopping I fell in love with a mostly laminate and carboard YELLOW and white with daisy's on the drawers set. The drawers were cardboard! The head board had wood rails around a laminate flat stock. I won and I have to say that set still lives!! It had a chest of drawers a desk with book shelves that fit either the drawers or the desk and a head board. I used it from jr. high until married, my children used it, and currently the pieces are sprinkled among the three of them as mostly storage in their adult homes. All the pieces have been painted a few times but not one drawer broke, and they were literally almost cardboard stapled together. People talk about "investment" pieces and I laugh. Find a head board, connect it to metal bed frame and be done. Here's the head board. What you see black used to be yellow. This is it's second upholstery job my oldest daughter did on it. It currently is used in the other daughter's guest bedroom.

My kids always had twin beds growing up. They bought their own full/queen/king when they moved out. Budget said twin, room in house said twin, so that's what they got.

We went with a full size bed. our DS didn't need it, but Mom and Dad did......He went through a period of needing someone to lay down with him to fall asleep during the night terror times. So we upsized to ensure if we were laying down with him and happened to fall asleep, we might get a couple hours of decent rest, rather than hanging off the side of a twin.....

And he loves the big bed, can share with his cousin if they have a sleep over.

We bought our kids twins. They had plenty of extra room for playing that way. I saw no need for a full bed. When they graduated and went out on their own, they all bought queen sized beds (hoping to get lucky). The oldest married, and she abandoned the queen for a king.

My older son's twin bed is still fine and he's 19!
Younger son has a queen, but only because it was a hand-me-down.

I'm a fluffy adult, and I have a twin! As a small child I had a full size bed but that was because my parents inherited it from my grandmother. When we moved and couldn't bring much furniture with us they bought us twins and I don't recall having any problems adjusting. I had a twin until I moved out and bought my own full sized bed. Now I've moved into a twin and don't miss the queen I used to have. Your children will be fine in twins.

If I had it to do over, I would get twin extra long size for our sons as our family is tall.

Maybe I'm outlier here but We recently moved into a house where one of kids rooms was big, we just decided to go with a queen and that indestructable steel bed from Room and Board. My brothers and I broke beds regularly as kids. My dad came by and said it was a great decision. Plus it's big enough that putting my 4 year old isn't totally uncomfortable.
