The Australian tea authors from Perth described kangaroos as a rose garden pest. Even after they surrounded the public garden with roo-proof fence, they hopped in the main gate along with the visitors - and happily munched on roses. What a funny image! Baldo (many of you know him as a bug guy and rose care expert) advised me to go out with a flashlight at night in my garden and see what was munching on my plants. Quite disheartening. Not just snails, but katydids and other unnamed insects, singing and eating away, probably just as happily as the roos. I splurged on professionally-installed lighting for my garden a couple of years ago and it's made it seem magical at night. I've got a little bamboo stand and it's especially wonderful with a spotlight trained on it. Secret Garden Musk Climber is on a trellis, with a spot on it, and just looks fabulous at night. There are still dark spots in the garden - the designer said you need to keep areas of mystery so the place doesn't look like Disneyland - and I think that I need to get a flashlight and go explore! well, I am getting somewhere. I drew little shapes, LOL, complete w/ solid dots where I needed the tool itself to go, and a "halo" around it to show where the clearance issues would be. It'll all fit in one square, if we eliminate one baseball bat. (believe me, there's one that can go! DS isn't willing, but I'll just bury it deep in that closet if I have to) And I cut away the wires. Now I just have to try out the objects themselves to see if it'll work. (I cldn't last night bcs I finished cutting after bedtime, and I try not to disturb the kids if they're sleeping (or esp if they're just falling asleep). And I'm contemplating labeling, or something, so DS knows what fits best where. Those wire grid things are sort of a useful thing--I got the idea for this from our Guinea Pig Cage It's made of the same grids; they overlap in one spot, bcs the full size was too big, and we used cable ties there. The lid is that ClosetMaid shelving, cut to size at HD, and held in place with, well, more cable ties. hinged lid That's how I knew I could cut the shelving to size, when I wanted to add shelves in the closet (another post still tocome) We hav a cat, so we have to have the lid. People w/o cats don't bother. The photo was taken when the daycare was not operating but the kids are safe, and there is plenty of adult supervision. After having the trees blocking that view for so long I just feel we are all living in a fish bowl. houssaon I did have an arborist look at the trees. There is a treatment that slows the disease but it will not eliminate it. The treatment is expensive and needs to be done every year and I will end up with the same result, no trees. There are not many fences in the my neighborhood. Maybe a combination of many things suggested would be a solution. Going to run out to the nursery today with some photos for more ideas. Thanks all. Salonva, they did have one weather one. I ended up getting pets and the market ones. I'm 64 when I was young there wasn't much cross over in toys. Not like nowadays. If a popular toy or character came out there wasn't all of those spin off products such as games, bed spreads, etc.
