When did you switch to 1 nap a day?

Our 11 month old son currently gets 2 naps a day. He is on a pretty good scheduel and falls asleep easily (and thankfully). We are thinking about cutting back to one 2-hour nap. Here is his typical schedule on a weekday.

7:00AM he wakes up on his own and dad feeds him before going to work. He falls asleeep immediately after this.
9-9:30; He wakes up mom and starts his day. (Isn't it sweet that I let her sleep in?)
11:00; nap, usually one hour.
4:00 2nd nap usually one hour, but he sometimes uses this as time to catchup and will sleep 2-2 1/2 hours.
8:30-9:00 Goes right to bed.

We would like to replace the naps with a 2:00 2-hour nap. Currently his naps interferes with lunch and dinner time.

On weekends he makes some noise at 7:00 AM but goes back to sleep after we don't get up. Then he gets up at 8:00 AM. He then will take a longer 2nd nap.

Here is my 2-cents worth. :-) You did not ask this part, but as far as him going back to sleep right after you feeding him in the morning, that may not be the best habit to encourage. Our DD used to do something similar in which she would want to take a nap about an hour to an hour and a half after getting up. It really threw off the whole day, similar to your dilema. What we did is instead of letting her go back to sleep right away in the morning, we tried to keep her up a little longer each morning until she got to the point where she was taking a mid morning nap instead. (If you did that, this would mean that your wife would not be able to sleep in. I don't know if that is an issue or not.) This then made her second nap earlier, like early to mid afternoon, so it did not interfere with dinner. After a couple months of that, we found that while she would still take the two naps, she really did not need both. So we kept her up and layed her down for her nap right after lunch. She then was at one big nap a day, right after lunch. She had no problem adjusting to it. She was about 11 months when we made the change to one nap a day. Your son may or may not be ready for that yet.

We will start pushing him towards one nap, maybe at 1-2. Hopefully it will not be too hard. He says with grandma 2 days a week and doesn't take naps on time when there. I think there is too much for him look at from her crib and she can't just let him scream himself to sleep. At our house in his crib he goes right down. That is another story. I want to start putting him to sleep in his playpen in his nursery. Then move the playpen to different rooms. That way we can get his comfortable about being in the playpen, but not in the nursery.

My wife loves sleeping in and needs it for sanity's sake.

Wow, my 10 mo old DS has almost the same schedule, except that he wakes up around 8 am, so I don't benefit from "sleeping in" (LOL)! I was wondering about dropping one of the naps, too. I find that if I have to run around and do errands, it's best for him to miss the morning nap and make it up in the afternoon. I have to be careful, though, because sometimes he postpones that afternoon nap till around 4:30 and that is too late! He like never goes to bed then.
