New Carpet

Has anyone installed new carpet with a newborn in the home? We had it put in yesterday and no one warned us to keep the baby out of the house...until today when a friend told me it was dangerous. I went online and sure enough there was tons of info out there. The baby coughed a lot during the night and in the morning but appears to be okay. Actually, I would just like to hear from someone who has done it that everything will be okay... Thanks!

RE: New Carpet

I know my cousin is always having some type of home repairs done and they've done some painting and had their kitchen remodeled and also new flooring put in since they're daughter was born 6 months ago. I'm pretty sure they got new carpet after she was born. My cousin is an RN and knows this stuff and didn't seem to worry. I would say your baby should be okay, just be sure she gets some fresh air because I know how new carpet smells just out in the stores. Yuck! Are the risks more associated with allergies or what?

RE: New Carpet

We did not have new carpet put in, but we did have both of our upstairs bathrooms gutted and totally redone. There were tons of smells associated with that. Our DD was just fine. Open windows when you can. She will be just fine.

Sorry for the assumption that your baby is a "she"! (LOL) I guess you never did say. ;-)
