Try white noise. Our DS was extremely fussy for the first few weeks and the only thing that calmed him down was the exhaust fan in the bathroom. He calmed down immediately whenever he was in there. You can also try a static-y radio, a clothes dryer, etc.

Have you tried Mylicon drops? They worked wonders for us

Looks like a post I wrote when my son (now 4 1/2 months) was 4 weeks! I am no doctor, only a first-time mom who can say I've been there and it does get better! I thought Cole would have gas forever and he'd never sleep alone in the crib and he'd never like the bouncy seat, carseat, swing (what baby doesn't like the swing?!), etc. His temperament improved around 9-12 weeks. Please be encouraged. Your little one is so small and depending on you for familiarity. It's VERY hard at first, you both are getting to know each other, but when your daughter is a little bigger and able to see you better, smile back, laugh and coo you will look back on this time and know it's all worth it! (of course)

Also, I recommend learning more about sleep and its importance to a baby. Our son was fussy mostly because he was tired - could only tolerate 1 to 1 1/2 hrs of wakefulness before becoming cranky when he was that young.

Tyra gave you some very good advice. I would also recommend a pacifier if you have not tried one. They work wonders for fussy infants. Hang in there, it does get better!

We had the same problem. As others have posted, you really just have to realize it WILL get better. Our DD started her fussy/colic time at about 2 weeks. We tried everything, turning the vacuum on was our last resort. It always would stop her from crying when she was getting really hysterical, but she would soon start up again after we turned it off. She is now 3 1/2 months and it seems she suddenly started getting better at about 2 months. It was so hard when she was so fussy. It seemed like it would last forever and, then, all of a sudden we realized it had stopped! Now she is cooing and laughing and it is all worth it! Hang in there!

Have you tried to carry her around in a sling? It worked wonders for us...it seemed to help with overstimulation. I have also noticed that my DD's fussiness subsided once her vision improved and she was able to interact with her surroundings. She spent more time looking and less fussing. That was at about 6 weeks. Hang in there!

You mentioned she had a lot of gas. Now at 4 weeks you are probably pretty proficent at breast feeding, and not watching what you are eating as closely. Examine some of what you are eating. Did you increase carbonated beverages? How about caffine? These two items can cause problems for your little one. As all have said, this too shall pass. I know that's not really a whole lot of comfort right now, but it is true.

Thanks for your help, ladies. Her ped. actually wanted her to see a specialist about the projectile spitting she was having so we did that on Friday. The conclusion is that she has GER (gastroesophageal reflux) and colic. Both things she will grow out of with time.

But an interesting thing the doctor said that I thought I would pass on is that he said the crying wasn't from the gas, the gas is from the crying! They swallow so much air when they are crying that it causes them gas!

Things are much easier to deal with now that I know she's not in pain when she's crying like that. Hope this also helps others!
