Is there a way for you to put the bath in the kitchen sink?? The tub we got fits perfectly in a double sink and was very inexpensive. I have tried to do it in the bathtub (when our sink was full of dirty dishes!!) and my back cannot handle it. I have a 4 1/2 month old and he loves his bath time. I did notice, though, that if I bathed him too much, his skin would get scaly and dry. I have read and heard from many that 2 or so baths a week is plenty as long as you are keeping their mouths, hands and bottom clean daily. Until babies start crawling it is really not necessary to bath them every day. It is a good ritual to start, but I think daily baths should be saved for when they get a little older. You will find, too, that trying to start bedtime rituals is pretty challenging when they are that young! I tried it as a bedtime, time to get sleepy pattern and he could've cared less. My DS is starting to get to the age where he will be able to associate bathtime with bedtime. Good luck, it only gets more fun from here!!

I'm sorry, I thought that I read that your baby was 15 days old, boy was I off! Then I saw 7 months. So that post will probably make no sense! We bought an inflatable mini tub to go inside the big tub but I haven't tried it out yet b/c DS cannot hold himself up yet. Have you tried sitting on the floor instead of kneeling? It might help your back a bit. Sorry for the confusion!

I get in the tub with the baby. That way, I don't have to have any special seat or tub, and the baby doesn't slip, and I don't have to bend over, and we can even nurse in the warm water. Then when it's time for the baby to get out, I either call DH in, and he takes her, or I lay her in the bouncy-seat I put next to the tub all lined with a towel.

Bath 7 mo. old every other day and do infant massage on other days as part of nighttime ritual (PS-started ritual at about 8 weeks and it makes a world of difference, include reading book too).

She was using infant tub in kitchen sink. Just bought one of the seats they sit up in and use it in kitchen sink. She loves it (and I know enough to not leave her alone).

Once they can sit (6 mos. +) then the bath ring is great! It's cheap and holds them safely in place while you wash everything. Even so of course you never leave a baby unattended.

I guess I'm the odd-ball here...I HATE THE BATH SEAT!! UGH...It didn't always stick to the tub right, and Timberly kept tipping it over(she's 9 months now)...of course I always had a hand on her, but it still gave me mini-heart-attacks! I decided to just put a rubber bath-mat in the tub and let her sit. At first she wanted to crawl, and then she wanted to pull up, but a quick "no," and "we're finished" solved that problem! I don't know that it's easier on my back, but it's a little easier on my ol' ticker if you know what I mean! :) I have gotten in the tub with her a few times, but the water's too cold for my taste!

Sara is 3 1/2 months and we give her a bath every other day and sometimes every third day. We make sure we lotion her good after every bath. Out pediatrician said that as long as she is not in the bath longer than 10 minutes her skin will not dry out, but any longer and it will. Of course this woman also said she gave her babies baths two times a day (where she found time and energy for this I do not know).

Not only is giving daughter a bath in the sink too drafty, but at 7mos old she is already in a bath seat, which is great & easier to reach most of her body parts & she's more comfortable than in a lying down position, but there is no way to expose her to a partly filled tub & tub toys & water playtime without doing it in the tub. Sitting on the flr, as suggested by 1 person? - how do you reach or put in or take out your baby - makes no sense to me. I think everyone got confused. I know she's going to continue getting a bath in this seat in the tub, but am I the oly one who experiences discomfort doing so?

I posted the responses earlier that may have confused you. I am pretty tall (6'1") so I guess sitting on the floor is not as hard for me as it would be for others. Obviously you would have to kneel to put baby in and out and to wash, but while they are playing, you could sit at the edge of the tub and observe/participate w/out having direct pressure on your back. The suggestion of getting in the bath with baby is great. I do that already but it is harder b/c DS is not sitting up yet. Seems like that would be much easier with an older baby.

WE use the bath ring for our DS, who is 7.5 months old. We also fill the tub with about 1 inch of water and lay him flat in the tub. That way he can splash and play and hopefully tire himself out!! I also bring in a stool which I sit on so it is easier to wash him in the bathtub and doesn't hurt my back so much!

I sit on the floor beside the tub while bathing Timberly...Of course I stand to put her in and take her out, but I find that sitting (on my knees) is the easiest and seemingly the safest (it's easier to keep hands on or near her). PS, I am by no means tall (5'2[.5!!]) :).
