Infant Carseat and Stoller

Posted by Mary_Rivers (My Page) on

Hi - I have a question for all you Moms out here. I am due in March and am trying to decide on which brand carseat/stoller to go for. Also do you prefer a combo or did you prefer to buy the two seperately?

Thanks for your input.

we have graco and we've really like it! it's not that expensive yet a very good brand. we bought the car seat and the stroller sep. but they match. the stroller is great and i like that you can put the car seat right on the stroller and it fits really good and our dd can look at us.:)

I also bought Graco. We got the stroller/carseat combo. They are reasonably priced. However, if you are strapped for cash, I recommend buying a convertible car seat. The ones that are part of the "Graco Travel System" are only for infants to 20lbs. So we have to buy another car seat in a few months.

We have an Evenflo stroller/carseat combo. It has worked very nicely for us. The carseat lasted until DD was about 6 months, at which time we switched her to a full size carseat that stays in the car. I don't regret it though, because the full size carseats are not good at all for tiny infants. They need the cradling of the infant carseat. We still use the stroller now, and DD is 14 months.

Well, I used a Graco/infant seat combo with two of the families I nannied for and HATED THEM!!! The stroller was sooo bulky, it didn't fit in my fairly roomy Mazda 626 trunk without taking it apart into two pieces, and then there wasn't any room for anything else. Both strollers were HEAVY and one completely broke. The other had toys that could clip on to the snack tray and those broke. I know lots of people that liked the graco combo but I reallly disliked it.

We ended up getting a Combi stroller with a Perfect Match system. It has a bar that snaps in and will fit any major brand infant seat. This was good b/c we borrowed my aunts infant seat (don't borrow unless you know the seat is new and hasn't been in an accident).

HOWEVER! My son grew out of the infant seat halfway through his third month. He's 20 pounds already... so we didn't use it long. And I found the infant seat a lot bulkier/heavier than I thought and hated lugging it around. I ended up using my sling TONS more and as a result haven't even used the stroller yet. I'm sure I'll use it more when he's older. I really like it, it's light weight, folds up small AND I bought it new off of ebay for half price! :)

When my DS was born in '99 my dad bought us a Peg Perego stroller that he spent about $350 on. Its a pram style carriage and I love it...but it never fit the car seat like the travel systems do now. They now sell an attachable bar so that it can be used as a travel system. However, I just had baby #2 4 months ago and my MIL bought me the Graco Duoglider Tandem stroller and I love it. I had a Graco seat and it fits right into the stroller and DS loves to ride in the "front seat". But it is really bulky, which is to be expected of the double strollers I guess. My SIL has the Graco Chauffer Travel system and loves it. And if you log onto Consumer Reports it will tell you that the $200 Graco system is the best and safest for the money.

Good luck. Decisions, decisions...

We have the Peg Perego Pliko Sherpa stroller and use the Century Smartfit infant carrier/car seat. So far we like it alot. The stroller is a lot more lightweight than the travel systems (I think it's about 15 lbs. or less and we live in the burbs so have to take the stroller in the car a lot) and with the attachment bar, I am able to fit the carrier in it and so I have a travel system too. I was going crazy when it came time for us to make a decision on a stroller. There are so many choices and so many differing opinions. Good luck!

I have the Graco MetroLite and love it! The style I wanted was only sold with the pieces separate (not the Travel System), so you'll have to see what colors you like. The stroller weighs only about 15 pounds and is so easy!

I use the Baby Trend Snap N Go stroller. I bought the Graco Snugride carseat and it fits right into the stroller frame. It's lightweight and makes it easy to get it in and out of the trunk. I highly recommend it!
