2 week growth spurt???

| Is 2 weeks too early for a growth spurt? Last night DD ate every 1-1.5 hours from 4pm - 12pm when I finally, out of total frustration & exhaustion, gave her some formula (she drank 3 oz!) She was eating a good 10-20 minutes at each of the hourly feedings too! She then slept from 12:30 - 5:30, and since then, has gone back to her regular 3 hour schedule. Was that the cluster feeding assoc. with growth spurts that I've read about? I sure hope so. I should mention that at her 2 week checkup, she had gained 26 oz. since leaving the hospital (avg. of 2.5 oz/day).
TIA, Jen |

| No, I don't think it is. My DD has had several and she is only 3 months right now. It seemed like some days she would eat every 30-60 minutes and she had seemed to be satisfied. I guess she was only trying to get the milk to produce in the amounts she needed. |

Jen, I have read that there is a 10 day and either 2 or 3 week growth spurt. Probably every baby is different. On day 9, Jackson wanted to eat often, and like Renee he was eating a full 15-20 minutes each time. Today he has been eating every 2 hours... more often than the last few days. It seems like every day is different :) Love, Leah |

who knows? DD varies from day to day. sometimes she'll eat every hour and then other days it'll be every 21/2 to 3. your little girl sure is gaining a ton though:) we haven't gotten our little one to gain that much a day and she's almost 11 weeks. she weighs 10lbs. 7oz. and weighed 6lbs. 11oz. when she left the H. |

| I heard that "typical" growth spurts occur at 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months. Obviously they could occur before or after these times as well. I think my 2 1/2 month old is going through this right now. He ate significantly more this past 4 days and slept alot more during the day. He is not sick and when he is awake he is playful and alert. Everyone I know says that those are classic signs of a "growth spurt in progress". Lots of eating and lots of sleeping... Aspen |

| Alot of BF babies go through a cranky period every evening for weeks in which they cluster feed. My dd's doing that now (she's 5 weeks old). It can last for several weeks and doesn't always coincide with a growth spurt. Mine will nurse on and off for hours and often cries to be fed, then continually pulls away from the breast - frustrating, but apparently normal. |

| I've heard two weeks is EXACTELY when they have their first growth spurt!! Sounds like she's doing great... Congrats! |

| I'm pretty sure that's what it was. I took her in to the drs. office to be weighed and measured today (2 weeks, 4 days old) b/c I wanted to make sure everything was going well. She's been pretty fussy/gassy the past few days and has been having projectile spitting every couple of days where I swear the entire contents of her belly comes up. Well, she was 9 lbs 9 oz and 21 inches long. Last Wed, she weighed in at 8 lbs 13 oz. Not sure of the length b/c they didn't measure her but she was 19 3/4 inches long when she was born. So it must have been a growth spurt. Thanks everyone! It's always something isn't it? Every time I start to think I'm getting things under control, something new happens to send me into panic mode!!! I guess I should get used to it, huh! :-) Jen |
