breastfed newborn question - change in eating habit

Hi again everyone. I've become very stressed lately. My baby is now 11 weeks. She is exclusively breastfed. She used to take the milk with no problems, but this week she has changed. She used to take both breasts for 1/2 hour each. But now, after the first breast she becomes too active and won't latch on for the second one. She just kicks and flails her arms. She's happy and smiling, but won't take the second breast.
I thought maybe I stopped producing enough milk, but that's not the problem. Has anyone else here experienced their baby's appetite becoming less around 3 months? Or do they just want more interaction and playtime? I'm worried she's not getting enough milk now and begin losing weight.

I wouldn't worry at all. She's probably just not hungry. Just start with the breast she didn't "use" the next time. I was told by a lactation consultant that as babies become older, they often are more efficient (faster) eaters, so maybe she was full as the first breast. My babies 3 1/2 months and I haven't noticed a decrease in appetite, but she still eats the same amounts as when she was a newborn. (I breastfed for the first month, had some problems and have pumped ever since.)

babies get more efficient at nursing as they get older - I'll bet she's getting all she needs from the one side. As long as she's happy, and having wet & poopy diapers, she's doing fine. And don't ever doubt your milk supply first thing! Growth spurts happen regularly, and the only way to make more is to nurse more! On demand is the way to go!

hey! phoebe is 11 wks. and just in the last wk. i have recently experienced what you have. she has always only taken one breast for about 10 min. and now sometimes it is only 5 - 8 min. this scares me too because i wonder if she is getting enough but she must be because she seems satisfied.
she's a booger in the late evenings though and just wants to nurse, nurse, nurse. but in the morning and daytime she will nurse and kick her legs and push her feet on anything!
it's annoying because she won't lie still and nurse but i think she wants to look around at what is going on.

Yes, they definitely get more efficient as they get older. In the beginning DD would nurse for almost an hour, by around 11 weeks, it was more like 20 minutes. Don't worry, it sounds like your little one is doing great!

It sounds like your little one has become a faster eater so don't worry. My DS use to take 1/2 hour to eat. At 7 months he takes about 5 minutes or so to eat. At first I was worried, but when I went to the Dr. he was gaining weight very well so I know he was getting enough to eat (and he LOVES to eat!). It makes nursing in the middle of the night, much easier now that he is more of an efficient eater!
