Is it normal to have itchy skin postpartum?

Hi moms! I have a 13 day old infant, Daphne, that is a total sweetheart. Everything is going well for us, except the fact that I have VERY itchy skin since I gave birth. I mostly itch where my stretch marks are, but also in other places too. It is really bad. I plan to talk to my doctor about it on Wednesday. Until then, I am using a lot of hydrocortisone cream. Did anyone else have this problem and what did you do about it?

Thanks!

I know that stretch marks itch during pregnancy for some women, so it can't be totally different postpartum. Ask your dr of course, but I'm sure it'll start to clear up as your skin returns to normal. Good luck!

I had terrible itching for about the last month or two of my second pregnancy. I was told by my dr to take Benadryl and he also prescribed a steroid cream to use. It took about 1-2 weeks after she was born before I was back to normal. I'm not sure if what I had was the same as what you are experiencing or not. Sorry but I don't remember exactly what the cause of it was.

Good luck....I know how terribly miserable it is!!
