McDonalds Food

At first I thought the McDonalds post was about this but then I saw it was about kids and thier shoes, so I made this post about whats really important. I took my daughter to McDonalds yesterday and she threw up. She told me that the food tasted nasty this time and that it gave her a stomach ache. Is this common or is it just my daughter?

RE: McDonalds Food

I don't think it's common or just your daughter. I think it's more likely it was just this visit. What did she eat? Was anyone else with you who might have eaten the same thing and gotten sick? Maybe something was undercooked this time. I think it was a freak thing. Scary, but freak.

My son got really sick after eating at KFC once. After that, he was afraid to eat it again for a long time. When he finally did, he loved it and felt great. Now it's one of his favorite fast food places.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I agree w/your daughter!! The last 3times I ate mcdonalds food, by gift only, not by choice..it was terrible! The food tasted awful! Personally there are a million other fast food places, and deli's where your money is better spent!

*I would call the McDonalds and COMPLAIN! Let them know what your daughter ate..could be a coincidental bug, or random incident, but it's best to let them know! Last time my friend complained she got a WHOLE lot of free food!!

Happy Eating!

RE: McDonalds Food

Sometimes my kids get an upset stomach after eating at McDonalds- I don't think there is anything wrong with the food causing them to get sick, I think they are just not used to all the fat that is in it. But, they still ask for McDonalds all the time!

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I think ChristineNJ is right. My doctor told me that eating excessive fat can cause upset stomach and diarrhea. And, McDonalds food IS fairly high in fat. The same thing happens to me *sometimes* when I eat pizza (also high in fat). For some unknown reason it doesn't happen every time though. I never eat at McDonalds because I'm vegetarian and their selections for vegetarians are *very* limited. Even their fries have beef flavoring added and *aren't* vegetarian.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I've become sick after gorging McD's food, but it was probably the quantity rather than the quality of food that caused the problems. McDonalds quality control (which is independent of taste or nutritional value) is actually very good (making a Big Mac taste exactly the same whether served in Los Angeles or Moscow is an impressive feat). If McDonalds food made people sick, they wouldn't have become the world's largest restaurant chain.

Low-fat fare is available at Mickey D's if you choose carefully. I usually get the Chicken McGrill sandwich and a salad. OK, and maybe a small fries. I miss the old McLean hamburger. I sometimes think McDonalds sold them just to "prove" that people don't really want healthier fast food. Why else would they all but ignore them in their advertising and promotions, and not include them on any of their numbered combo meals, then complain that they didn't sell enough of them?

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

Children really seem to like McDonalds, even though adults don't.

Don't worry about the fat and high calorie content of McDonalds food, children have a much higher calorie need than adults, and what will make an adult fat will be fine and healthy for a growing child or teenager.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I don't think anyone would say McDonald's food is healthy for anyone.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I have been sick the past 3 times I ate at Taco Bell and I used to love it. I wont take my step-son to McDonalds, he knows his Dad and I hate it and the only fast food place we will go to is Wendy's and that is very seldom when travelling. His mom gives him that junk all the time and it doesnt make him sick but he sure does prefer meat and potatoes over fast food.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I believe it is like with anything - moderation is what is needed. I don't believe an occaisional stop at a McDonalds is going to hurt a child. For example, the Happy Meals contain a small hamburger (9 grams of fat) or cheeseburger (13 g of fat) and a small fries (10 g of fat). In comparison - one small dinky bag of chips has 10 g of fat. I was also surprised to learn that a Chicken McGrill has 18 g of fat. However, if you leave off the mayo, it has 7 g of fat. Chicken Nuggets have 11 g of fat for 4 pieces and 16 g of fat for 26 pieces. The reason their hamburgers taste so bad is that the beef is cheap cuts of imported beef.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

NO, MY POSTS ARE NOT FAKES

so there

and my grandson vomited after eating a chicken grill sandwich at Mcdonalds
everything is fried there its not good for the kids
at Burger King the stuff is broiled

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

What makes McDonalds so much worse than other? I know people who got sick at McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, my brother once got sick after eating Kentucky Fried Chicken, my Mom can't eat at Dino's pizza in our mall and not get sick, my one cousin gets sick at Arby's, some can't eat at a Chinese restraunt, you can get sick eating things off a salad bar or at a major restraunt. It's not just McDonalds. We eat there maybe once every two weeks if that and we haven't gotten sick. Sometimes we thought the burger tasted funny and quit eating it. Maybe some people got sick because they had a bug and it wasn't what they ate. This is the time of year for the flu and things. Most of my family members have been sick and ate at home. It could just be that and not the food. Did anyone else eat what the people did who got sick?

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

Burger King's hamburgers may be broiled but according to their own web site, their hamburger has 16 grams of fat.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I think the main point is fast food isnt really good for you compared to home cooking and I find when you eat home cooked foods often your stomach cant always handle the extra greese in take out.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

It's not always true that home cooked it better, either. Many people still settle for convience foods that are high in fat and grease and other things. Those aren't always better. We eat things like fries and nuggets here but they are baked in the oven and never fried. We grill things like hot dogs and burgers. It really depends on how you're cooking your food or even what types of oils you are using. Some people are allergic to ceratain cooking oils, maybe that's the case.

~Leslie~

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

Sorry too me home cooking automatically is meat, potatoes and vegetable. I make homeade fries and boil the hotdogs and that is treat night. We usually only eat chicken burgers from a box if we get home late from Fishing or something (I dont mind that stuff but DH prefers anything but). I think I cook like that more though since I know my step son often says dinner at his moms was just fries, or fish sticks or grilled cheese. She has time and can cook but doesnt and He loves vegetables. We finally had to tell him to ask his mom to buy stuff for salad and he can make it himself. So I guess I likely treat him differently since he doesnt live with us because I know he needs nutrients and he likes it.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

My husband and I have both gotten sick from eating at McDonald's, at separate occasions, and we stopped going there for a while, but now things seem fine.

The night I got sick (I got really sick, and it didn't help that we were going to be traveling, the only thing that helped was Pepto) I stopped with my son and got him a cheeseburger and I think fries for myself. He refused to eat it, and so I did. Good thing he didn't!

But, we've also been sick after eating at nice, expensive restaurants, too. I say it's just freak occasions, you never know.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

hilde ... why the outburst? You didn't even post on the thread before your outburt and no one accused you (here on this thread) of being fake. If he had a grilled chicken sandwich then everything there is not fried then is it?
I certainly would not say Burgerking is better for you since my aunt and I both get very sick when we eat there. I also believe they use "unhealthly" oils or animal fat in cooking their deep fried foods

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I think it depends also on WHICH McDonald's you go to.
I have one about 5 minutes from my house, but we travel to the one that's about 20 minutes away instead.

I would need more than both hands to count the problems with the one that is closer to me.

I know a couple that were both in the ER for food poisoning a few hours after eating there. My nephew also got really sick after a Happy Meal he ate there.

Besides the food, their service is bad. I can't figure out why they take your order, when you never get what you asked for. They recently removed their play area. It was so nasty that when you drove by, you could smell it.

Most of them are independantly owned, so quality varies between sites.

It's not just McDonald's though. I once worked in a popular (family owned) Italian restaurant close by. On weekends, there was a line out the door. If only those people knew what went on in the kitchen!! People were served pasta that was prepared weeks ahead (not frozen), food would drop on the floor and go right back into the pan, fish was tested for doneness by the prep cook inserting his finger in each piece (licking in between) and using bread crumbs to cover the mark he left, silverware would come out of the dishwasher with food still on it- it was wiped on an apron and put out for use........I could go on forever.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I was just wondering about the chicken head found??? In the nuggets! I heard about it ?? 7 months ago?? and then not again. Has anyone heard about other then myself?

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

Tmmm,
I have heard about the chicken head...eeewww... I've also heard gross stories from people who have worked at the store when and where it happened.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

First of all, you should warn your daughter that if something doesn't taste "right", don't eat it!

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

The chicken head thing is at the Urban Legends site, snopes. I go there and check everything before I believe anything. They haven't updated that site since Feb 2001 and it looks to me like a chicken wing just happened to fry up and ended up looking like a chicken head. The picture and article is after the story about fried rat at KFC.

~Leslie~

Here is a link that might be useful: Chicken Head

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

Leslie,
I don't know that I would believe everything the Urban Legend site says either. Do you know who runs it? Maybe they like to cover stuff up...I'm sure it's not quite like that, I'm just saying what if.
I saw a picture and read the article in the news paper about the chicken head found. I didn't believe it either, until my Mom handed me her newspaper...AND NO, it was not a tabloid. It was a reputable newspaper, as reputable as any other (IE. LA Tines, New York Post) only a smaller city.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I usually check the site for computer in-box stuff and they pretty much have a lot of facts to back up things. There are many other sites out there just like it. Type in Urban Legends in a search and check. I'm not saying it didn't happen, you never know but I believe if it did, we would sure be able to tell. Our McDonalds does not sell wings, none of them in the area do so I don't know

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

Alice,

Did you read Leslie's link in entirety? Snopes did not say the chicken head part was a hoax (just the KFC rats). What they did say is that the chicken head claim is real, as are the photos, but that it is still under investigation and litigation is pending. I guess I should say - the story is not a hoax. What may be a possibility is that the chicken head may have been planted or that the incident was staged to trigger a lawsuit. But it's definitely not a hoax.

And I trust Snopes and the urban legend sites to be objective.

I have seen them debunk things as often as I have seen them publish things as true and verifiable.

They also publish references to actual sources, before they claim hoax or true.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

No I think madonalds Got nasty once they dtarted getting big, The fries taste like cardboard,Flat crushed burgers, Out of alot of things when you go. We basically stopped going. Weve had stale rolls. Alot of the kids that work there have no supervision so whatever goes ,goes.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I read that it wasn't a hoax but since it was still under investigation and all that, I didn't really pay much attention to it. The last update for that article was Feb of last year, wouldn't they know more by now? Could the chicken head have been they're own doing? How can they prove that they got it from McDonalds? There are way too many lawsuits going on these days and people will do ANYTHING to get money. Until I end up with a chicken head in my food or acutally hear more about this, I won't worry about it. I bet if we only knew went on in half the restraunts we eat at or the plants that make the food we buy at the stores, we wouldnt' eat again.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

TREKaren,
I did not read the story at all. I am not trying to be argumentative or anything of the sort. I was just saying that I do believe that that did happen. I don't think it happened on purpose, but let's face it...when a machine is doing the work of seperating chicken meat, mistakes can very easily be made. I don't believe that McDonald's would intentionally let a chicken head be fried up and served. It was an accident.
I once saw for myself a flies wing fried to a McDOnald's french fry. I don't think that that would be accepted either, but merely something that happened.
I trust myself to attempt to seperate facts from fiction and then make a decision for myself, not just believe what a website tells me. Though, I have not checked out the urban legend website. Again, I am not saying anyone is right or wrong. I'm just saying not so pleasant things can and do happen in the food industry.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I was just asking if you had read the article because it sounded like you thought she was saying that the urban legends folks said it was a hoax.

If you go surf to the article, you'll see that they actually substantiated that the chicken head story was TRUE (albeit still being investigated and litigated).

That's why I was asking if you read it.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I did think that she was saying that the urban legend people were saying it was a hoax. That was a misunderstanding on my part.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I think Hilde was accused of posting fake messages on another topic somewhere else. I didn't think it was fake. I sometimes wonder why people get so accusatory (referring to the person/people who thought her one post was fake...) Sorry...

Anyways, it was probably some freak thing. And if she decides never to eat McDonald's just because she got sick that one time, then she's probably better off!

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

TREKaren,
I wasn't mad. I read the article while trying to do about two other things at the same time. I just have a hard time believing any weird stories like that. It may not be a hoax but they've never determined anything to prove it was true either. So that's what I was getting out.

The Hilde thing comes from many posts at many forums that seem to not match the forum. There have been posts at many different sites from her about noisy people and woman being the nosiest and stomping in their shoes. She just seems to lash out in forums for no reason and sometimes about things that have nothing to do with the discussion.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

Oh, maybe I was thinking about someone else. Sorry!

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

Leslie:

I'm confused. I was chatting with Alice about her post, don't think I chatted anything about you. And I don't think I said anything about you being mad (???)

I'm lost. Did I completely miss something? Ahh, what fast food does to our brain cells ~LOL~ among other things.

Have a great day!

Karen (planning on having Lean Cuisine for lunch) :-)

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

Sorry, maybe I just got confused, too! I was just making sure. You never can tell how people mean things on the computer. I'm usually reading posts and cooking supper or doing something for my 2 1/2 year old! Always busy!

RE: McDonalds Food

cindy_lou_who,
Ewwww, GROSS!!!
Since this thread has lead to controversy about fact vs urban legend, does anyone know of a serious roach incident at Taco Bell? I heard something about roach eggs in the meat that got into someone's mouth and hatched! I never heard any more about it than that. This was a few years ago. Does anyone know about that?
OP, it was probably a fluke. Unless you, your child, or others you know of have gotten ill from that McDonalds, I would say that it just didn't agree with your little girl that day.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

Starbaby,
Not true! Check out the link. You may be interested in going there and reading some of the stuff they have there. A lot of it is stuff you heard when you were younger and we've all excepted as being true. You can also check out the in-boxer rebellion and it tells you about all those fwd's you get from people and if they're true or false.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

Starbaby,
I don't believe that did or would ever happen. It just seems way too far fetched.

I did hear, and this is nasty...when I went back to my DH's family's for Christmas, this was a few years ago before we were married, someone had been in the news for getting off in the tacos. I believe, it's been a while, it was in the sour cream. How disgusting, and it's not a big town, so people had to know who he was. Oh, and I think it was at the Taco Johns.

Obviously, I don't remember the details well, but then again why would I want to? We just avoid the taco places in his home town. I'd be interested in what The Legend site has to say about this. I do believe that it happend, but wish that people wouldn't do such digusting, nasty, and intentional things.

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

LOL Alice,

In our town it was supposedly in the fettuccine alfredo at the local Italian restaurant...

Pam

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

Thanks, nadastimer. I had thought that the story was a little bizarre, and, like I said, I never heard any followup to the story. Nonetheless, I avoided Taco Bell for awhile after hearing that, but found that I couldn't give up my occasional double decker taco with a side of beans and cheesy rice! LOL!

 o
RE: McDonalds Food

I think if we all checked out the kitchens of fast-food and regular restuarants, we'd be scared! But what we don't know usually doesn't hurt us.

Also, if you read further down the Taco Bell page, the story about the envelope/roach eggs isn't too far off. My roommate works at the Envelope Manufacturers Association. She has toured the factories where the glue is made for envelopes. She said the tanks are extremely dirty, who knows what could be in there! After that she said she'd never lick an envelope again.
