the posts here just go to show you that women are some of the worst noise violators

its like they PURPOSELY GET INTO WALKING LOUDLY WITH THEIR HIGH HEELED SHOES AND BOOTS

and heaven forbid the men in their life walk louder than them

This has to be the same person as the old grandmother posts and the glass ornament posts and the plant eating posts. Go check out the style of the poster. They never use a capital letter or a period. They never actually ask a question. It's just someone getting their kick out of making fake posts.

How about grease on the ceiling? In the first image below from Victory's website, the size of the single device is smaller than the plume size at the ceiling. Even though the slots can pull from across the ceiling, impinging plume effluent will deposit moisture and grease. In the second image, the larger area and lower height will be more effective, but a more conventional hood will be better for the same area, else commercial kitchens would use a different design. Also, note that the higher the aperture, the more the plume can be deviated by relatively mild drafts, and the greater the plume disruption due to people moving about. Obviously, the trades among affordability, performance, and aesthetics are up to the home owner, and to each his own. As one who weights performance within the limitations of the architecture most highly, my choice would be different.

Can I run a bathroom vent line alongside a dryer vent line?

It is not possible to go through roof since the bathroom is in the basement. The dryer vent was put in when the house was built new 5 years ago and passed inspection then. The vent runs underneath the floor joists and is the shortest route to the outside. The dryer vent has 3 bends in 20'. It is working fine with no issues whatsoever. I was planning to use insulated flex for the bathroom vent since I heard it was best for it to be insulated.

Why would you want to do that? You should have a properly sized hood over your range. You can do a custom wood with an all-in-one insert, a pre-made all-in-one like those posted above or a custom or pre-made with a remote blower. More: https://bamasotan.us/range-exhaust-hood-faq/

The return grill does matter. Your HVAC unit probably requires at least X square inches of total return openings so that it moves enough air. Inadequate returns will result in subpar performance at best and real problems (like a freezing coil when cooling or straining the fan motor when hesting or cooling) at worst.

Don't you hate it when people post about noisy feet!?

If that is their worst problem they need to rejoice in the unfairness of life!

On the other hand if they need a REAL problem to carp about perhaps they should try picking up a newspaper.
