That site is too cluttered with extraneous junk ads, pictures, sayings and is not at all user-friendly. I shall remain here.

I agree that the site is cluttered with a lot of junk ads and is not user-friendly, however the subject of the forum is helpful. I also do not know why some of the messages of different posters have been deleted as I found them valuable and useful, despite some of the conflicting opinions.

Alabama your yard doesn't look bad at all you don't want to go crazy killing weeds in this heat.be patient hand pick the major ones and don't spray until your yard goes dormant than you can use round up and get a hold on them.then you need to get on pre emergent program.i like stonewall- Prodiamine it's a spring and fall application. Read the Bermuda bible and follow by seasons. I made mistake spraying weeds in the summer before but I guess you live and learn. One more thing do your yard a great service and get a soil test.i see people with high ph and putting down lime.thats a killer. I see people with low phos ,potassium,just putting nitrogen on there yard instead of a balanced fertilzer like 13-13-13. My neighbor had a light green colored yard.one day he ask me what I was putting on my yard.i told him a balanced fertilzer.So I put a one foot square spread of 13 -13 - 13 on his yard and his grass turned bright green and grew great.He listen to me after that and had soil tested low phos,potassium and they told him to use a balanced fertilzer 19-19-19 at 5 lbs per 1000 sq ft.now his whole yard is green and he is a happy camper. Soil test will tell you a lot of good info. Good luck. Tom

Hi Toni The potting mix for leaves needs to be very light with at least fifty percent perlite which creates air pockets for the roots to breathe. Then add potting mix. I get the one labelled for AVs from Ace Hardware and Garden Center. Some people add some vermiculite which retains moisture in the mix. They should be placed in very small cups such as very small solo cups with small holes cut in the bottom for drainage. I use an Xacto knife also bought at Ace. Sometimes I cut about a 3/4" around from the top of the cup if it seems too tall. It is better for no more than one or two per cup because when they grow, they need space. If you cannot do this all in one day, put the leaves in water with a pinch of sugar. You can find many photos on this forum for rooting leaves and samples of trays with clear plastic lids to put them in after putting them into each small cup. You can also find the trays with tall covers at Ace. Because you live in Calif you probably have an Ace near you. The leaves will take nine months to grow to the small plant stage so they won't take up much space for a long time. You will start to see many more white plants in stores. It can be hard to find pure white but I saw Optimara has a new one on their website also. Yes, some folks like older or vintage violets. Have fun. J

The sun shouldn't have killed any plants from seeds you sowed directly in the soil, unless the ground was very dry -farmers plant seeds in the open ground with no protection. Might have been slugs, cutworms or damping off fungus, although damping off doesn't usually occur in the open ground. You'll need to harden off the plants you purchase - expose them gradually to sun and the cold of night over a week or two. You start them with just a couple hours of morning sun, until you get them up to full sun. Some of your plants look like they have yellowing veins, which you might google on. Since it seems to occur in different kinds of plants, it's more likely to be a nutritional deficiency than a disease. But don't over fertilize. Your prepared bed looks great.

Mona, go to the top of this page and click on the word "forums". A list of should pop up that says Garden Forums, Home Forums, Nature Forums. Click on Garden Forums, then go down the alphabetical list until you come to "Suggestions?".

I am sure that a number of us have sent in our issues to GW with the "new" forum that was set up. If a forum had been set up that was more like the one here on Parents Forum, that would have been excellent. But so far that hasn't happened. I am among those who have written in and asked for a discussion area that is like this one on Parents Forum.

I think that the new discussion group, Estranged Stories, set up on ning is excellent.

yes I too had sent a request in to GW with no response and no new forum added. I too am at Estranged Stories but I feel I am abandoning so many here. Too bad the staff at GW do not recognize our needs as we do feel comfortable here and have established some connections. I almost feel rejected by GW like my son rejected me. That must sound silly and probably dramatic but it is a desperate time for me and I do not always make perfect sense. I keep coming back here and hope Medusa is doing alright.
