Bedroom help needed for 10-year-old girl
Comments (47)My inclination would be to paint the walls bright white and let the rest of the accents be the color players. White is the backdrop I've often seen, or been drawn to, when I look up bohemian pictures. I'd also put a really large area rug in the room that only left a few inches of bare floor around the perimeter of the room. This way, no matter which way the room is arranged, the rug is always the right size. If your daughter is anything like I was, the room will be rearranged many times during her teen years! : ) You could still layer her little rug over the large rug for her reading nook. You might like to plug the room into homestyler.com for working on the layout. Your kitties might be disappointed, but muscles with thank you. : ) If you save a snapshot of the homestyler layout to your computer, you can upload it onto here using the photo link. That would allow us to see the plan overview, and will make it easier for us to help with the arrangement....See More10 year old cactus and I still don't know what it is. Help!
Comments (6)Sarah Please do not get upset if we tell you that it doesn't look it's best. While you have this plant for 10 years, grew it from seed and it is still alive, obviously you did something right but we do not think it has been growing under ideal growing conditions. In 10 years, it should have grown much more, especially for opuntia - they are usually fast growers. There are miniature opuntias in existence, but yours is not, miniatures grow only few inches tall, they are just about ground covers. Healthy plant should support itself, without sticks and/or being tied. There are some marks visible on the plants - could be just natural corking, but it is difficult to judge from the photos. Could you take photo in better light and perhaps close up? Many opuntias grow paddle-like leaves. There are others that have cylindrical growth - but I am not sure yours is that type (maybe?). Here is Austrocylindropuntia subulata:You can see totally different shape, also different spines. The top part of the shorter plant on right is more round, that makes me think it wants to be paddle-shaped plant. It would need more light to grow more compact and wider segments. It is difficult to supply enough light indoors, many of us have the same problem. Plants grow stretched - etiolated - looking for more light. Changing soil yearly is not needed (the plant above has been in same mix for over 2years now and I am not planning on changing it). Succulents like to be in gravely mix (closer to what they grow in in their natural habitat), that offers excellent drainage and air exchange. You asked for ID - sometimes the plant has shape that is more difficult to ID. BTW, there are almost 500 species... So, the comments are not attack on you, just tips-remarks on the plant as we see it. We are all plant lovers here, and ask questions all the time. There is something in every post, even just 1 thing, that could help....See MoreFinishing touches to a 10 year old’s bedroom
Comments (43)@Olychick- I tried it over there but bc the desk is higher than the other nightstand , it looked weird to have the higher piece closer to the door Where you walk in and the lower piece farther away...so I switched it . Its a small room so I feel like the desk should go back to its original position. High Shelves in place of the desk will put way too much furniture in a small room . But honestly - design isnt my thing...See MoreHELP! Sharing a room with my 13 & 10 year old daughters!!!
Comments (3)Look into getting a trundle to go under the bunks. That will clear the floor space during the daytime when you're working. You can buy a metal pop-up trundle. If the bunk is too low to the floor for the trundle you find, look into adding feet to the legs. If you find what you need, you can sell your bed to help cover the cost. Maybe your mattress will fit the trundle. You could also make a cheap trundle with rollers on a sheet of plywood topped with your mattress....See Moreamygdala
