Please post pictures of your shared boy/girl bathroom
Comments (9)Well, there is no way I would post a picture of my kids' bathroom on the internet, LOL!, but we went with monkeys (it seemed appropriate). I found very cute monkey bath mat, hand towels, soap dispenser, and waste basket at Linens N Things. They also had a cute shower curtain, but we didn't need it. Each kid has their own stepstool in front of their sinks -- you can get them with storage inside or without, and can either paint their names on or have their names painted. They each have their own towels and toothbrush holders to their liking. For non-guest bathrooms, I like to keep the color white/creamy white because it provides better light for getting ready. This keeps the room pretty neutral. We haven't remodeled the bathroom yet, but the POs used a pretty neutral creamy faux marble countertop and off-white tiles on the floor and in the tub, so there's nothing that screams GIRL or BOY. Eventually, we'll put in some nicer fixtures and surfaces, but I'm still going to keep the colors very much white, cream or tan. In our last house, we went with a fairly adult looking hall bathroom and hid the kids' bath toys behind the curtain....See MoreWhat has your bad boy/girl been up to lately?
Comments (26)What HAVEN'T they been up to? LOL. Xena likes to steal. About three times a day I have to find and return the christmas-tree shaped plant pick that she steals from a mini-rose on the kitchen table. I tried taking it out and putting it away, but in a fit of pique she started to eat the blooms! Back the pick went, back to stealing went Xena, and no more flowers became mutilated. So far this system is working for us. Jasmine is being quite the sucky baby. If my posture even suggests the existance of a lap, she is on it. I leaned against a low box the other day while taking a phone call and she scrambled right up like I was sitting in an armchair or something. Then she proceeded to look perturbed because there really wasn't enough lap there to lay across and she was clutching with all her worth and STILL sliding down my legs. She has perfected the art of "log rolling" - as I turn over at night, she skillfully balances and walks as I turn, then settles onto whatever side ends up at the top when I am done. I suppose I wouldn't mind all the warm snuggly attention. But she drools. Ew! LOL Ruby? What can I say about Ruby. Today I wore make-up because we were going to a local pizza joint to celebrate DD's birthday with family. I had a few moments before it was time to leave so I snuck in a few moments of reading. She trampled over to me across the back of the couch, placed her paw on my head to steady it, and proceeded to sniff all over my face. First she inspected the eye shadow. Then she sniffed each individual eye lash, running her flat nose along the length of each one. She checked out the blush on both cheeks. But the best snurffle was reserved for last! My lipstick. Burts Bees, and it has a bit of mint in it. She sniffed and snotted and sniffed some more. Then she delicately gagged in my face (she does not like the smell of mint at all LOL). No wonder I don't "make myself up" very often!...See MoreBoy/ Girl Baby Bedding - link
Comments (3)ttod- This is the one area that I love...baby rooms. Gorgeous bedding! My inital reaction is that it reminds me of my Vera Bradley bags. So yes, I think the brown and teal colors would go for a little girl. It has a feminine ruffle on the bototm and the paisiley is very whimsical looking can give the room a cottage feel. I think it would be great, outside from the tradtional pink or purple baby girl BR. For a little boy...I would maybe play up the choc. brown. Maybe do dk. brown drapery panels and a choc. brown carpet....if it is a girl I would play up the white/acqua...this may too much, but for a little girl white bead board on the wall would be awesome. This is making double guess what I just did for my baby's nursey! Good luck, keep us updated....See MoreGirls' Life, Boys' Life (the difference)
Comments (53)Good points from the linked article, regarding juxtaposing the Fall fashion issue of GL against a Boy Scout magazine: ‘The Girls' Life cover is a sample size of one. While this particular cover appears to encourage teens and tweens to focus on their looks at the expense of everything else (and to tacitly say that being pretty is the only important thing) at first glance, a closer look at the magazine's web site quickly shows that previous issues bore covers focusing on stories about body acceptance, getting jobs, and dealing with bullies (and how not to be one) tucked amid pieces on fashion and celebrity gossip.’ ‘Karen Bokram is the founding editor and publisher of Girls' Life magazine. She told us that the outcry seems to stem from adults placing their own expectations and pressure on young people. She says that by the time girls are reading her magazine, they're already receiving mixed messages about what they're supposed to be (and with additional pressure from their peers to fit in), which is in part what her magazine is trying to help them navigate: I put this stuff in there, and once I point it out, people say — okay fine, you have a lot of high quality content, but you still should have it on the cover! And I'm like, okay, so we're shaming girls for having interests that aren't aligned with what you think they should be interested in? So getting good grades and making friends — which is on my cover — isn't within your wheelhouse? ‘...See Morenatureperson
