Gee, this is interesting. About 4 years ago I built three small, shallow bogs with tough plastic sheets. I dug trenches about 2 feet deep. I also punched holes about 12 inches from the bottom. I then filled them with a peat and soil mixture. Now this worked well for about two years but then invasive plants started growing. I'm sure the sheets have been punctured and the water no longer collects. Your photos have spurred me onto redig the holes(deeper) and not punch holes in the sheeting. When working the bogs provided most interesting plants. Also this time I shall add sand.R squared

i picked a bad summer to dig a bog garden (i'm in the catskills) rained all week and filled my bog hole, i woke up to see my kiddy pool floating in an inadvertant pond, most improperly. i pumped out the hole, only to observe that the water table is around 6 inches below the ground, so water started streaming back in. at a loss, i put my kiddy pool back in its pool puddle, and umped in, filling it with water. then i started shoveling the dirt pile i removed to make said hole. after a couple of hours i think i created quicksand! i took my sole joe pye weed and plunked it into the middle of my mud pool time for planting! bog gets around 4 hours of sun a day. any suggestions welcome

olychick, I wondered the same thing exactly! What do you have to do to a chair to get the upholstery that beat up! I would guess that upholstery is circa 1980s, but still. Price is $300 for the set, a decent price I think. I'd still need to find two arm chairs, not necessarily the same chair but complementary. Seems like the risk is relatively low since I can prescribe the table height and material. Thanks for the advice.
