Do families really do breakfast?

Posted by tonih72 (My Page) on

I am curious to see how many families actually eat breakfast together in the morning (mon-fri)?
If you do eat together is it something easy or does someone normally cook breakfast?

Thanks!
Toni

You mean everyone all dressed and ready to go, happily sitting around the table eating together, with Mom in her apron making the pancakes? No.

Everyone leaves at a different time, some don't have to leave, some left before daylight, and no one has time to cook for everyone else.

We do more of a cooked family breakfast on weekends like pancakes, or sausage and eggs, toast. No dressing up.

On weekdays, my 5 yo is the first one out of the house. The public schools here feed the kids breakfast. If he gets up early, he might eat a bowl of cereal, cinnamon toast, or extras for his lunch like the tortelleni (sp?) he had this morning. I don't worry about it because his class eats breakfast 15 minutes after school starts.

DH may eat a bowl of cereal, but usually gets a burrito brunch from some guy that sells in his office.

The 2 and 3 yo usually get a bowl of cereal a hour or so after they wake up. Since I'm home with them, I'll cook for them when they want it. They love pancakes and eggs. Some days it's just a sippy cup of milk and yogurt with a straw if were headed out for one of our activities.

On weekdays, DD has to be at the bus by 7:10 so there is no time to eat, and hard to be hungry that early. She eats a 9 a.m. morning meal at school - they do that because otherwise the kids would starve by the time a noon lunch break rolls around.

At least 1 day on the weekend, we do up a sit-down breakfast; we really love to do it!!!

I work at home so I often assemble whatever the kids want in the morning: toast, cereal, scrambled eggs, cocoa in take out cups. Sometimes they just go get their own. We never do a sit down together breakfast, even on weekends, but if they have friends over, I will sometimes make a large breakfast of pancakes or French toast for everyone and call them all to the table.

No breakfast here.

We eat breakfast together, 4 of us, but it's cereal or rolls or yagurt and fruit and read the paper. We all leave around the same time, so it makes sense for us. And that way, I can see who needs money, signatures, etc.

I am a divorced mom and do actually make my son french toast every morning that he is with me. I have it down to a science so that it is fairly easy. I usually just have cereal and sometimes eat while I cook so that I can get the last minute things together while he eats.

Saturday usually big breakfast together. Sunday we leave so early for his dumb religion class (i know that I shouldn't say that -- but it makes me crazy that on the one day of supposed "rest" I have to get up and out by 7:30) that we usually just scarf down a bagel after class before church.

During the week the majority of the time it is juice, toast and cereal. Sometimes the kids will ask for pancakes or french toast. They are easy to make so I do that. The weekends are our big breakfast times. We sit down and eat and talk. Make our plans for the day and find out what's up with the kids and their friends. The Cleavers it ain't but it works for our family. NancyLouise

Not here either, but we do eat breakfast together on weekends. Daughter is out of the house before it's light and DH works nights. I think dinner together is more important because that's when you get a review of everyone's day.
