Boy birthday party ideas

Hi everyone, I need ideas for party ideas for my son who will be turning seven at the end of this month. We've been telling him all year since his last huge party (25 kids, a bounce house and pouring rain...ugg!)not to expect to have a big party this year. I've told him no to the idea of having a skating party so we need to come up with ideas of some fun things we can do at home with ten seven and eight year olds. I just can't afford to spend hundreds of dollars this year on food, decorations, party favors or a costly venue. Thanks!

Does your son enjoy painting or doing crafts? They could then take whatever they made home as their party favor.
My son is 5 and he LOVES to get into gooey stuff. I have an awesome book called Kid's Concoctions with bunches of recipes for different crafts.
Other than this, I am drawing a blank!! Hope I helped a little :)

How about a Scavenger Hunt? You could hide small party favors along the route, and have a Pinata at the end as the prize for everyone.....then the easy segue into the Pinata bashing, lol.

Does she enjoy family reunions? Maybe you could organize a "family party" near her birthday (I agree August is pretty far off) and have a nice cake with candles. For my 50th, my husband gave me the nicest gift, and it might be nice for your aunt, too, because she doesn't like to be the center of attention and might not like toasts or tributes to her at the party. He contacted all the relatives and friends -- including old friends from school and even camp! -- and asked them to send him a favorite memory or story. He put photos in, too. I ADORE it -- it's the nicest gift I ever got. We had done this years for my parents' 40th anniversary, and they loved it, too. So you could do this for your aunt; buy a pretty scrapbook and ask all the relatives and, if you know who her best friends are, them, too, to contribute. Maybe you could invite a few of her friends to the dinner, too? If all of this would still be too much fuss for her, maybe just have a small group take her for a little trip or something. Then the focus is off her, even though she is the guest of honor. We and my SIL's family are taking my MIL on a family trip for her 80th (although she LOVES being the center of attention!). If that is still too much, then just take her to dinner at the best restaurant you can do and give her a nice gift and/or a generous gift to her favorite charity. If I were your aunt, I would love any of these, because they all share the most important thing: they show you love and honor her. You are a good niece!

'B' birthday party for boy's 5th b-day

Well, the party was a success so I thought I'd share the results after your thoughtful replies. Invitation: Cut out a large letter B from paper printed with balloons. I randomly wrote on the front B=Ball, B=Balloon, B=Book, B=Bubbles, B=Bugs. Then I wrote the party details for the Big Boy Birthday Bash on the other side, including that this was a "B" themed party. Food: (I was cooking for about 43 adults and kids.) Beefy Ribs and (Buns with Hotdogs for the kids) Brown Rice and Chickpea Rainbow Salad (GREAT pesto vngrte) Beans with Lemon and Walnut Vngrte Bacon and Blue Cheese Mashed Potato Casserole Biscuits with fresh herbs and Basil Butter Drinks: Basil lemonade Blueberry lemonade Cake: Banana cake in the shape of a bumblebee. I found a baseball cake pan the shape of half of a ball and thought "why not make that the body of the bee?" So I did. I used a 6" round cake for the head, but I cut it out a bit to fit snuggly into the round body cake piece. I frosted it with golden yellow buttercream. I was in a hurry so instead of mixing black icing for the bee's stripes, I sprinkled on brown jimmies in stripes. I used black licorice for the antenna and legs. I made wax paper wings with popsicle sticks as veins. I found those black licorce wheels as big eyes. It was so cute!! And tasty! Since I needed cake for 43 people, I made some extra banana cupcakes frosted with the bee frosting and some jimmies. Games: Balls (football, baseball, tennis balls, curvy ball and catchers, bouncy balls, soccer ball, beach ball, etc.) Bubbles (FIL makes his own bubble juice and has tons of fun wands) Butterfly pinata (couldn't find a bumblebee) filled with small bouncy balls, bee rings, etc. Treat bags: Black Bags filled with small "B" items like bubbles, ball erasers, blowers, etc. Decorated the house and deck with tons of balloons from the Dollar Store. Some of the gifts given to DS began with B, and some even decorated their gift bags and cards with B. It was cute to see people get into the theme. All in all, it was a great party. Kids had a fabulous time--too much of a good time at moments. ;) Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the idea about the wii...I know all my kids have them so I might get them to bring one. We're going with a taco-fest. Figured we have fresh veggies so we can use them in the meal. Making up a bit vat of taco meat, vegetarian refried beans, spanish rice and all the fixings. My sister will bring fruit for margaritas & we'll set up a couple of blenders on the deck bar. I've delegated out food & work to everyone and so far I'm getting good responses. Everyone seems excited. We've got it all planned out how to surprise her...I think she's suspecting something is up, but I have a trick for her. I'm also going to have everyone write out their favorite memory of her, some people haven't known her all that long, and of course, my siblings and I have our memories. It'll be fun to see what peoples favorite stories about her are. Also plan to have someone video and be sure to have lots of cameras out. Heck, there may even be some dancing! My son told me that there is a local store that had plastic margarita glasses on sale, so I'm heading there this evening to get stuff. I've got tons of streamers and decor, so we're going to have fun with this. Thanks for the suggestion of the tacos...that is perfect! Cold cerveza and margaritas...and it's supposed to be 95 that day...nice evening breeze at my house, sounds like a great party is on the way.

Joan, for my dd's 1st b'day party I wanted to plan some major event because it was her 1st!! But the others are right, they are too young at this age to have anything planned so for my dd's party I made it a Minnie Mouse theme - guests had the option of dressing up with 'Mouse Ears', & I had Minnie invitations, a Minnie Mouse head cake, Minnie paper plates and napkins, Minnie decorations and Minnie candy bags to take home. That part is simple and you still have your theme. If your child is a boy, make it Mickey! I hired some toys such as a slide and see-saw for the older kids, and had some toys scattered around. The party only lasts for 1.5 - 2 hours at the most as they will get tired, and some either arrive late or go early for their naps so dont go to too much trouble!! Save that for later parties as we'll have more planning to do!

How about an Olympics theme? You can play musical chairs & use the Olympics theme music; adapt other party games to the Olympics by re-naming them. With the Winter Olympics taking place now, Olympic-themed favors & stuff might be easy to find.

There's a whole Olympics party plan in the "Penny Whistle Party Planner" book, including menu ideas. I've seen these books at our library. Its the one with the blue cover. I recommend these books for anyone with young kids - tons of creative, and inexpensive, party ideas.

I wouldn't worry about a lot of decorations for boys. I agree with trying to combine your activity as the party favor. You could have them decorate their own cupcakes or cookies. Scavenger hunt is another good idea. The prize could be a pinata and then everyone gets a chance at breaking it.
I've seen the backwards party mentioned a lot and kids his age would probably get a kick out of it. You could really go all out from invitations to the final parting or just let the invitation say it's a backward party so wear your clothes backward etc. Play musical chairs backward-when the music stops you get up and move around or you walk around and then sit when the music comes on. I think Family Fun website may have had some ideas on this.

I have a 7 year old boy. All he wants for his next bday party is to have his 2 best friends sleep over. You don't have to have a huge party or invite every kid he knows. Get a pizza and a movie, invite 2 or 3 friends, have a sleep over with cake an ice cream - or if you don't want to do a sleepover, just have pizza, pop, and cake and an evening of board games with his best friends. No decorations, no goody bags, etc. The kids don't really expect all of that at this age - it's a treat when they get goodie bags but they don't miss them if they don't. Good luck.
