scheduling the 'TALK' (s)

My son's are growing up-9 1/2 and 7. I've always been honest about reproductive issues that have come up (fathers contribute half the seed to make a baby; babies come out of the mother's vagina, not her butt) but haven't addressed any of the explicit details of anatomy, copulation or the most difficult of all, the emotional complexities.

I'd like to hear how other's have approached sex education, their success and what they'd do different (and why).

I have always kept an open dialogue with my kids. It's so much easier to discuss these matters at a younger age than when they are 11 and up. By then they are not so receptive. I use almost any opportunity to talk. Seeing people hug. TV shows that bring up "adult" issues. I once explained what a foreskin is to my daughter after watching "Meet the Fockers" with my young teen kids.

As my kids entered 5th grade, the subject of "the movie" came up. I had to sign a permission slip. So I went out and found appropriate books for both kids and looked them over. I have a girl and a boy. The books were good about discussing the basics of boy/girl love and sex and BC and feelings etc. but were lacking in values discussion. So I did that part. About treating one's own and others' sexuality with reverence and waiting, etc. I purchased a book for my son called "What's Going On Down There?" I liked the tone and the content.

My kids are 13 and 15, I don't know the results of my approach quite yet!

I recently (this week) saw a news segment about them.Of course I can’t remember exactly what news outlet. I did find the following which is what the report said. “ The American Academy of Ophthalmology says you don’t need them and has gone on record as not recommending any kind of special eyewear for computer users. The organization says blue light from digital devices does not lead to eye disease and doesn’t even cause eyestrain. Lyban, I am not surprised you’re confused because I’ve been talking about multiple weddings! The earrings from an earlier post were for this dress, my MOG dress for early spring. No necklace, because there is a small ”diamond” bedazzlement already on the dress. THIS navy dress is what I am wearing to a wedding in Sept. And I ordered and received these navy shoes, and I like them so I’m wearing them. And I already have the exact shoes in silver to wear with the fuschia dress next spring. They are very comfortable. I like the navy dress so much, I may wear it for the rehearsal dinner for DS’ wedding. The lace pattern is all heart shapes, which verges a bit on maybe-too-cutesy but it’s fairly subtle.

They have been around for 30 years or that is as far back as I remember seeing them! They are just decorative. The ones I have seen over the years are faux and require no care, other than trying to dust them. They have been out for a while, so I see how they might be making a comeback. Have to keep selling "new" stuff to the next generation of homeowners!

Let’s talk Air Purifiers and house animals

I bought a Jafanda Air Purifier when we were getting the smoke from the wildfires and the pollen from one of our trees was everywhere. I bought one for a 1190 square foot room. When I plugged it in the air quality number was over 100 and within a few minutes the air quality was down to 2 and we really could tell the difference. I don't have cats but if you burn something while cooking the air is cleaned quickly. I notice also that one of my family members allergies are so much better. After having the sewer cleaned out a few weeks ago my house smelled terrible, the air purifier didn't seem to touch it but I had ordered some bamboo charcoal bags on Amazon and hung 5 of them in the basement and they absorbed the odour. They are reusable, just put them in the sun for an hour or two.

I have no opinion on "Fockers." You'll have to ask the writers. Here is a link to the movie site. It was a sequel to "Meet the Parents." It ended up being a bit more ribald than the first movie, which surprised me but also offered ample opportunity to discuss adult sexuality and values.
