Hello new poster, "oh_my." I see you snuck in here and we know nothing about you except you're funny! You've left some witty and wise responses this weekend.

I call for introductions!

mom of 3 boys (14, 11 and 5) and girl (8)

SAH for 14 years and starting to work again, substituting until I get recertified to teach HS English.

Married one year. Living in sin for 4 years before that. We have a yours, mine, and ours family.
My SD is 9.
My daughter is also 9, four months younger than my husband's.
We have a 4yo daughter together...and yes, we have learned where babies come from now, and will not be having any more happy little accidents.

My SD visits every Weds and every other weekend and 4 weeks in the summer, but her father just filed for shared parenting, so we'll see. She's not that fond of me, but I choose to love her anyway. Sometimes she'll forget she doesn't like me and give me a hug.

My daughter's father has been very scarce in her life, and she has not seen her father since February of '06, although recently he has been texting me saying he's sorry and wants to develop a relationship with her. He just had another baby girl, so I wonder if that's not prompting the sudden interest. Anyway, she, on her own, has begun calling my husband dad, has not asked about her bio-dad in a long, long time, and is feeling very stable right now, so if her bio-dad doesn't specifically say to me, Hey, When can I come over, I'm not going to push the issue.

As far as our 4yo...what a difference having your parents together makes in a child's overall demeanor and attitude about things. It makes us sad about the situations we've created in our past and gives us real purpose in making our marriage work the best it can.

1Kgrace345, I kept going back and forth pondering over getting a Presto canner or the All American...I really could have gotten the Presto many years earlier, but I wanted to save my money and just wait. I have two mirro canners that I have had since I was married in 1970 that my grandmother gave to me that she used and they were literally falling apart. The handles were gone, and they no longer had handles to replace them, so I was having to lift the pot by the hot metal...last year I burned my hand really bad...but I kept on canning. I just bought those new gloves made out of well, what ever that is...my brain just backfired...I hate when that happens...darn it. My husband (behind my back) took them both to the dump...that made me really MAD because they were my grandmothers, and I would have like to have kept them for old times sake, anyways. But, he bought me this new one today..and I just about had a flying flip when he said we were going to town to get one...I got ready faster than lighting! I understand how you would still feel like you were a proud parent of your All American, lkgrace!! LOL If my husband wasn't looking at me on the way home I would have petted mine...LOL!!!

crh, The yard looks great! You're too far west for the snow, so that's good. However, your area of Texas has a Red Flag FIre Warning today. I guess that means you have the unfortunate combination today of high wind and low humidity. At this time of the year, the weather doesn't like to leave us alone to just have a pleasant, mild day very often, does it? My favorite days are the days when none of us have any advisories, watches, warnings, etc., but those days are fairly rare. Kim, I didn't mean to scare you. The TX panhandle is a big place and I'm glad the snow is staying north of you. Yes, cold weather can come really late there, sometimes shockingly so, but I wouldn't let it keep me from planting in a year like this. In a warm year, the odds are more in your favor that the cold won't come back. In a cooler or colder year, early planting becomes more risky but it is a risk a lot of market gardeners will take anyway because of the need to have bountiful harvests by the time the markets open. It is April on the southern plains, so of course we are going to have everything but the kitchen sink thrown at us, weather-wise. At least we are safe from tsunamis here. (grin) Dawn

The rocks were installed by the previous owner to address the hill on the property and create a basement walkout for the house. There is no real danger of flooding but unfortunately the black rocks cannot be addressed at this time. I think you raise several good points, especially about wind and blowing smoke.I do want a patio for a raised firepit similar to the picture below. What about locating the patio in front of the beach area as you look at it from the house? Half a full moon shape or stay with a rectangular shape? A path way from dock (yes there is a boat) to the stairs would be helpful, but should it be made of the same or similar material as the patio? There is also a spot to the right of the beach that may serve as a location for fire pit..... thanks in advance for the thoughts and ideas!

It looks as though the first thing you might want to do is figure out a better layout for your furniture and declutter. Once that is complete you should be able to find pieces that will work wonderfully in your room. It might be a good idea to look at some of these living room designs for ideas on coffee tables and other sofas.
