Has anyone done Embroidery on Paper?

I fell in love with this craft 3 years ago and hav e collected every pattern I find. It is really fun. Just do a Google and sites come up. Or email me and I can give you some sites. cathy

I've been thinking about it. Like I really need something else to do and more supplies! Do you have a favorite site for basic instructions?

it has seven free patterns. I started this craft to use up my threads from cross stitching--now I have a whole lot more threads/ enjoy. Kids have fun doing this for their friends also cathy

I use the super-easy newspapers pots inside my favourite containers (Costco salad boxes or milk jugs). The dead-easy method is just to cut a 4" strip off the bottom of the page (4 or 5 pages thick), wrap the strip around your fingers to form a tube and use a small piece of tape to hold it together. Pack the tubes into your container and fill with soil. You don't need a bottom on the tube as your plastic container keeps the soil in the tube. I used the top of a milk jug as a funnel to fill the tubes, and a chopstick to stir the soil a bit to make sure it got to the bottom of the tube. Make the tubes only as deep as you want your soil. I discovered that if you leave a rim of newspaper exposed above your soil level, you just have to rip it off when you plant out, or you have a short newspaper fence around every seedling.

I didn't buy the CD because I didn't want the thread kit that ran the whole thing up to almost $150 with tax. I have enough thread and do hand cross stitch with every DMC color known. I discussed this with the dealer and told her the colors were off according to what the statues colors are and why I didn't want the thread kit, just the CD. The CD embroideries were licensed by the convent who owns the Hummel rights and digitized from the original paintings done over 60+ years ago...paintings probably have never been cleaned although archieved so you know the colors are off, especially on skin tones. The figurines are painted with oxide glaze colors I prefer.

I learned a method from King Arthur Flour for kneading dough where you spray the counter with Pam to avoid using bench flour when kneading and forming dough. So a light spray of olive oil (either from a mister or Pam-type olive oil sprays) would seem reasonable for pizza dough. It's quickly absorbed into the dough. I form pizza dough on the pan with oiled hands - just pat it out. Having used the oiled counter method, I can't think that cleaning a light film of olive oil any worse than cleaning up bench flour. A paper towel for olive oil and a bench knife for bench flour, then a wash with hot soapy water. Personally, I use a Silpat for forming or rolling-out yeast breads; and I handle the dough with oiled hands - NO bench flour or oiled counter necessary when using a Silpat. I usually make dough in the bread machine, but I'll also knead dough on a Silpat when making it by hand. -Grainlady

A friend's MIL embroidered gold rings on all the wedding invitations when her son and my friend got married. It looked beautiful.

Some paper embroidery patterns can be adapted to use for embroidering on CDs. (Obviously, you need to drill the holes, but the principle is the same).

Hi Cathy and other embroiderers -

I have tried embroidery on greeting cards a few times. The effect is stunning and certainly different from most other cards I make. But golly, did my fingers get sore poking all those holes!

What do you use to make the holes? (I was using a large needle.)

I did an angel in flight to fit into the oval space under glass of a wooden tray for my mother; of course, I have it now. Still love it. chery2

YES, I HAVE. I USED CARDSTOCK PAPER AND A STRONG NEEDLE.
I ALSO PUT STABALIZER ON THE BACK SIDE, THEN COVERED WITH
ANOTHER PIECE OF MATCHING PAPER, TRIMED WITH SOMETHING PRETTY....EDGING...
