oh, white roses - my favourites. How to choose though. Would have to start with the fabulous Nevada - like a stately galleon, sailing across the grass/weed patch. Like Mariannese, i must put in a vote for the charming double white. As a rule, single roses have always stole my heart but these dainty cupped blossoms, alomg with the delicious ferny leaves, fit brilliantly amongst the untidy vegetable profusion of the allotment. Because I have many timber supports in the raised beds (there are currently 23 of these beds) I grow more climbers and ramblers than shrubs or bushes. Much as I would like great swathes of Wedding Day, Seagull et al, I have to be content with just a couple of large white roses so have chosen R.soulieana, R.helenae and the gorgeously fragrant, if a tad touchy in the famously nippy easterly winds, Nastarana. Finally, another vote for a Pemberton classic, Moonlight. One of his earliest and imo, one of his best hybrid musks. It is still throwing out bloom clusters, arching out and up, entangling with an unruly Snowgoose (a surprise Austin addition to the list) Red......hmmm, not my fave colour although a 10 year old moyesii is truly fabulous, underplanted with stooled purple filberts and an equally vivid tanacetum - yay. I do not have Souv.de Dr.Jamain although I have planted several for customers. A lovely rose but Etoile d'Hollande is still my favourite velvet red. Lastly, a simple 'cottagey' rose I do have is Paul's Scarlet climber - always fresh, bright and easier to site in a rambling allotment, than most reds (which always seem more formal and 'grown up' for my garden style).

My thanks to both the creator of this bed and the person who brought the thread back up. I am so inspired that I immediately thought of a place in our yard for a red bed, and we'll be starting it tomorrow! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I wish you the best gardening year ever. One note about the castor bean, for people who are just learning about it--it's not just sort of poisonous, it's very poisonous. So take care where you put it, to keep children and pets safe. Here are the blocks that Kitty received. She took pictures from two different sides so you can see each end clearly. They are so pretty! Here are a few instructions if anyone wants to try Photobucket and posting pictures here. You will need to set up an account with Photobucket if you don't already have one. Go to http://photobucket.com. Upload your picture from your computer onto Photobucket. (If you don't know how to do that, ask me by e-mail.) As for the screen, you will see a blue box that says "Upload images and videos" once you click on it, you will be looking for the location of the photo that you want to post and just click on it. Photobucket will tell you when it is loaded. You then want to "return to album." You will see the picture that you just selected on the screen. I think you can hover over the picture and get this information - look for the HTML code and copy that. Paste it into the message that you are posting for GardenWeb. Of course, you can do a preview of the message before you post it so you can make sure it turned out right. If hovering doesn't work, put the curser on "Share Code Link" and it will list as one of the choices, the HTML link. Same as before, it needs to be copied and pasted into the message for GardenWeb. Jeanne. Thanks so much for hosting especially with your busy schedule. I enjoyed participating. No worries about prizes here either. I did find out about the mug. It came from my coworker. I volunteered to work extra hours for two weeks on a special project that was usually done by our team lead but she was out with Covid and the other person that assisted had retired. So we took the lead to get it done and she sent me the mug out of gratitude for my help. She is the nicest person. I am fortunate to be part of a great team. It’s like working with family where I work and it was such a sweet and unanticipated gesture. She said she had wanted to send me flowers but with the prices and added delivery it would have been too costly. So she opted for the mug with flowers instead. She knows I am an avid gardener and it was a perfect and thoughtful gift. I will be posting the March FOTESS activity soon.
