The Rubber Stamper magazine has been sold

Just got this off another board and thought I'd share since it pertains to our group!

Dear Readers & Industry Friends:

I am excited to inform you that The Rubber Stamper magazine has been sold to

Amos Craft Publishing. Amos Craft Publishing is a fine publishing company

with a tremendous amount of experience in the creative industries. I will have

the opportunity to work closely with them in the months ahead and together we

will create a plan to take the magazine to a new level.

The November/December 2007 issue will be the last issue of The Rubber

Stamper in its current format. However, Amos Craft Publishing plans to incorporate

The Rubber Stamper into its flagship magazine Crafts n Things and will

continue to provide you with 75+ card and stamping projects in every issue! Amos

Craft Publishing will fully honor the number of issues you have left on your

Rubber Stamper subscription so you will automatically receive Crafts n Things

for the remainder of your current subscription.

Amos Craft Publishing has several other excellent craft magazines including,

Painting, Pack-o-Fun and The Cross Stitcher. If you prefer, they?d be happy

to transfer your subscription to one of these other Amos Craft publications.

As soon as I learned of this sale I wrote an email to the new publishing company urging them to keep The Rubber Stamper magazine as a separate magazine in its current format and noted that it is meeting a need that few, if any, other magazines meet for rubber stamp enthusiasts. I am urging everyone who enjoys the unique benefits of RS to do the same - maybe if enough loyal readers bombard Amos Pub. with this request they will start to rethink their plan. I know I am not the only one who has checked out Crafts N Things and not been inspired. As of the December issue, the editor letter says they added a section for cards and stamped items - although some projects were nice, something about the layout did not grab me. I also know that some of my favorite features of RS will have to be lost with this merge - probably all the great tips and product info. If you care at all, please contact the Amos company and let them know how much RS is wanted and needed! And if they are smart, they will hire the same editors who lost their jobs with very little notice!

I get my stamp (collectable stamps) from Amos and yes, let them know what you want and they will try. I too have noticed Craft and Things have changed.

There are grades of 'hazardous' and the terms are often misused. Hazardous Waste is a particular term with very precise definitions, and tires would certainly not be in that category as suggested by pt03's post above. Hazardous Wsates have very stringent handling and disposal regulations. 'Hazardous Material' is a term applied more in the emergency response field, in terms of flammability, toxicity, reactivity, etc. when fighting fires or responding to spill incidents. I would say tires are a haz mat only in the sense that when they catch on fire, you definitely have serious air and runoff problems. kimmsr's link says: "It's toxic: Research has shown that rubber leachate from car tires can kill entire aquatic communities of algae, zooplankton, snails, and fish. While part of this toxicity may be from the heavy metals (like chromium and zinc) found in tires, it's also from the chemicals used in making tires. These include 2-mercaptobenzothiazole and polyaromatic hydrocarbons, both known to be hazardous to human and environmental health." Algae and zooplankton? OK, don't mulch the bay with it. ?? I would still like to see the 'research.' The article presents no data or references. I am not arguing the point about metals, because I DON'T HAVE ANY DATA. The idea that someone supressed data when they decided tires could be sold as mulch is disingenuous. How about the formulas were changed to reduce or eliminate metals in tire production? How long ago was this? I do have concerns about the PAHs, and that's the first I've heard of 2-MBT but it makes sense as it's a rubber vulcanizing agent (as well as a fungicide - and possibly a dessert topping? If you remember the old Shimmer commercial on SNL) Had a site with 2-MBT once. Its toxicity was so low there were no federal numbers for safe levels in soil, though. Again, I am no fan of rubber mulch, I just want the risks to be properly expressed.

kathleen, you are right, Lowes and Home Depot have a lot of galvenized pails, I have seen some great decorations done for Halloween with those pails too. Yep, not around much due to all the yard work I have to do now... I love being outside. luvs, yes, I thought that the dish drainer was unique but a cute idea for holding the plates and flowers. Yes, I am still working on the garden...so time consuming! No shelves up yet, garden has my first priority right now and in the evenings I have been busy with doing the cake decorating and cupcakes.... jaybird, glad you like the pics, my goodness you have most of it now! LOL, I think you could find the rubber bands at the Office Max style of stores. I bought the red, white and blue straws from Walmart. sandi, glad you liked them. I had bought one of those metal vases from Walmart a few years ago (for transporting flowers) I would like to have more but my Walmart does not have any yet, bummer...

I still have a set of these, and they are indeed awesome. I stopped using fitted sheets altogether years ago and just use two top sheets, so the garters are critical. The only problem is that gremlins keep stealing the fasteners, sometimes for months at a time. Then one day the missing one appears again, even though I have scoured the base of the mattress many times. (I am a firm believer in gremlins because there's just no other explanation.) If something really comparable ever shows up again I will buy at least 2 more sets! PS: I can't imagine using those straps that go clear under the mattress and cross in an X on a waterbed. You'd have to empty the mattress to install them! It's ridiculous that they are advertised as being "perfect" for waterbeds.

Me too! I dropped all the subscriptions and for all the same reasons. I do get a little more exercise now because I walk to the library 3/4 mile from my home to read the same mags for free. I do make a small donation to the library every year because I use it so much and I believe if we help a little then we will always have the Free public library systems. I make it clear to many friends and family members they need to drop a bit of change in a donation box for the library. Remember libraries don't get the books and mags for free and many have had to cut back on subscriptions too. So when you can please give a little back. Ours accepts books from personal libraries and sell them (If there are copies on the shelves already) to make money for more newer books. I have bought many very inexpensively and them donated them back after my bookshelf has reached maximum capacity. LIL
