Lucky you to have a set. I've been wanting some to make a bench. Randomly glue (use a spray glue) some of the pages together in each book. Stack the books together so that they are the same height & level. When you get them set just right, then glue those books together. I would think silicone two would work but you might consider a construction type epoxy. The stacks of books will be the legs of your bench. Then put a top of some sort for sitting, on the legs. I like the look of all the bindings showing on one side. So, I would stack them all the same way and glue those little wedges of wood that are used to shimmy doors & windows to level the stacks of books. When everything is dried, I'd throw on several coats of a sealant. The books will probably soak up a lot of the seal, but it would be worth it to me to get that look. Hope you do use them for something. I kick myself now for letting a set go that my Mom & Dad bought when I was a kid. Never entered my mind that someday I'd be in love with junk! Vickie

You might be able to make a larger size a little easier If you adjust the dimensions for the one cut five point star. I found some directions if you are interested. This shows it using an 81/2 X 11 piece of paper. But I'm sure it could be adjusted to a larger size, maybe using a newspaper! Here is a link that might be useful: one cut five point star

I've been looking at the picture. I think I've figured out how to do part of this. If you look at the pink and blue star in Kat's link, it looks like there are two layers of buttons. I'm not sure, but I think the star is built in two individual layers with the ugly knots and any funny stitching at the back so you don't see it when the two stars are put back to back. They use 19 buttons for each side. All buttons have four holes. I assigned the button in the middle to be Button #1. The next ring of buttons are Buttons #2-7. 72 613 54 Each Button has holes AB CD in that order. To do this with embroidery thread, you would put a knot at the end of your thread and push your needle through the back side of Button #1, Hole B towards the front. Then the needle goes into the top of Button #2, Hole C and out towards the back. Next it goes into Button #3, Hole A and back over Button #1, Hole B. From there, go underneath to Button #1, Hole D and out the top to Button #4, Hole A. From there go over the Top to Button #5, Hole. I think you continue in this sort of pattern until you get the needle back through Button #1, Hole A. Once you go through the back side of Button #1, Hole A, you go to Button #2, Hole A and come out the top and then over to Button #7, Hole D and then under to Button #7, Hole A and the up over to Button #6, Hole B. Continue circling until all of the buttons of the outer circle (Buttons #2-7) have a stitch. I think you'll be able to figure out how to connect the rest of the buttons. My instructions are probably confusing. I think they may make more sense if you draw a picture and diagram your buttons and holes. I think once you get both layers of star completed. You can stitch the two stars together.
