Embossed dryer sheet

I stamped and embossed an unused dryer sheet and then soaked it to get the softener out. I'm not too impressed. You have to really put the sheet over a piece of card stock to see the image. The image came out great tho. On the photo you can see that one looks ragged that is because the heat gun started to melt the first image. I don't think it is worth it. I'll stick to Mulberry paper I think.

Thanks so much to experimenting, Minnie! Don't be too discouraged... you would probably be putting the embossed dryer sheet on a piece of card stock (as in a greeting card) when you actually use it anyway, so it would show up then.

Did the image look appreciably better before you washed it? Did any of the embossing 'wash' off? Do you think it is necessary to wash it after embossing?

Frankly, I think they look GREAT! I'll have to get to "The Store" and get some embossing stuff/.

I don't think you'd have to wash it after embossing but it would be kind of slippery and have a nice smell to it. No the embossing did'nt wash out I used gold embossing powder and some other color might have been better under the circumstances.

The unit I have is electric. Gas is also available. There are currently three models (six if gas & electric are counted separately). DG62T27CW2, DG62T27DW2, & DG62T27GW2 are the gas models. They differ in control panel layout and choice of cycles/options. CW2 and DW2 are labeled AeroSmart and are marketed as matches to F&P's AquaSmart washers with matching control panels (CW2 has an LCD panel with capacitive touch buttons, DW2 has soft-touch buttons and no LCD). GW2 has soft-touch buttons (no LCD) and matches the panel of the EcoSmart washer. Any model of course can be used with any brand/model of washer. GW2 is equivalent to the older DEGX1 that I have.

I guess the question is why would you use them? Sometimes there's the old that's the way we've always done it! philosophy and I avoid that policy often. My reasons for not using are the same reasoning as above. I don't use them because I simply don't need them. Why waste the money, time and effort? Plus I don't like my clothes to smell. When clothes smell,that's when I think they need to be washed. Most detergents now have a water softening agent in it so the "softening" aspect is moot. Dryer sheets do build up on the dryer sensors and why cause more maintenance? Save money, save labor. Static cling is occasionally an issue but I never found the sheets to really do that much. A can of Static Guard or it's frugal counterpart, a spray bottle of water to mist the clothes, is more effective. I have several poly blend and poly t-shirts and now in the winter, yes there's some static. So I give them a shake and all is well. Plus if I don't dry as dry, or "over dry" as some call it, that helps too. Don't want damp clothes but a bit of humidity in the air in the fibers is fine and deters static. I haven't even used vinegar for a long time. I'm just so happy with the way my clothes come out now, and simpler is better. Don't need the extra cost or labor.

I love dryer sheets in my athletic and cycle shoes and to use in drawers...but I NEVER use them in the dryer. Miele even specifically say NO NO to this.

can you access the crawl space? if you can than get under there and take a look at the dryer vent. i would be eilling to bet that whomever ”cleaned” her duct either loosed or disconnected a piece of ridged vent pipe OR if the fleixble corrugated was used then a hole was poked. Either way sudden changes in smell are usually due to leaking vents OR a large change in building pressure that is causing air to be pulled into the space to equalize the pressure.

It might be neat to stamp ghosts on some and then frame them in a window for a Halloween card. Just remember to watch that heat gun unless you want hanging cobwebs haha

I thought you were supposed to use "used" dryer sheets. Once they've been through the dryer they've lost the stiffness of the fabric softener as well as most of the smell.

I have a segment from an old Carol Duvall show... I'll get it out and see.

The idea, as I recall, is to get a lace look on your card stock. The dryer sheet melts in a lacy design and sticks to the paper when you hit it with a heat gun.

Am I thinking of the wrong project?

We were experimenting with doing it before it was a "used" sheet.
