Embossed dryer sheet

I stamped and embossed an unused dryer sheet and then soaked it to get the softener out. I'm not too impressed. You have to really put the sheet over a piece of card stock to see the image. The image came out great tho. On the photo you can see that one looks ragged that is because the heat gun started to melt the first image. I don't think it is worth it. I'll stick to Mulberry paper I think.

Thanks so much to experimenting, Minnie! Don't be too discouraged... you would probably be putting the embossed dryer sheet on a piece of card stock (as in a greeting card) when you actually use it anyway, so it would show up then.

Did the image look appreciably better before you washed it? Did any of the embossing 'wash' off? Do you think it is necessary to wash it after embossing?

Frankly, I think they look GREAT! I'll have to get to "The Store" and get some embossing stuff/.

I don't think you'd have to wash it after embossing but it would be kind of slippery and have a nice smell to it. No the embossing did'nt wash out I used gold embossing powder and some other color might have been better under the circumstances.

Wow!!! That is just beautiful, Minnie. You've got a challenge ahead of you to top that one for this year - LOL! I think the dryer sheets may be too thin (too many holes) to successfully emboss on them. I think about half the little crystals/pellets would drop through the holes. I've never tried to emboss, but think I may have the materials around here - somewhere! It would sure gussy up some of my cards. I'll have to dig around in my supplies and give the dryer sheets a try, and cards, too. And I sure love your gold background... that means if I want to do that, too, I'll have to eat many more Hershey bars before Christmas! Are we the only ones here, Minnie?? I really appreciate you responding to my simplistic threads!

Mizan, yes it does ... lol. And thank you for your tip! Were the squirrels gnawing the bark? Whatever the problem, that's an ingenious solution and easier than installing a metal collar which I've seen recommended to keep squirrels out of mature pecan trees. NMM, Linda M started using the dryer sheets on a whim remembering that sticking a couple in your back pocket had been recommended to keep mosquitoes away when outside. I've tried that and it works. She looked further into the subject on line this morning and sent a couple of LINKS. The second links refers to research showing why some brands work better than others depending what it is in dryer sheets that have the repellent qualities. Linda says the inexpensive HEB brand is what she's using and finds to be working. I hope it works for you. Let us know.

So far, we haven’t found a contractor to renovate the upstairs, and we close in two weeks. We found a guy who is willing to do the main floor – – install all hardwoods and renovate the kitchen – – but he won’t touch the upstairs. We probably won’t get to move in until February at the earliest. So I guess we will haul the giant Speed Queen up there and put it in the unfinished basement for large bedding. Then we have to decide whether to undergo a second floor renovation while we live in the house, or put the Bosch units in that awkward main floor closet. Hey, first world problems, right?

It might be neat to stamp ghosts on some and then frame them in a window for a Halloween card. Just remember to watch that heat gun unless you want hanging cobwebs haha

I thought you were supposed to use "used" dryer sheets. Once they've been through the dryer they've lost the stiffness of the fabric softener as well as most of the smell.

I have a segment from an old Carol Duvall show... I'll get it out and see.

The idea, as I recall, is to get a lace look on your card stock. The dryer sheet melts in a lacy design and sticks to the paper when you hit it with a heat gun.

Am I thinking of the wrong project?

We were experimenting with doing it before it was a "used" sheet.
