Friday Scavenger Hunt- paper weaving

This Friday's scavenger hunt was inspired by a class my stamp store is advertising. It is a type of paper weaving called "papuela". They sell templates you can use for this weaving, but I think it would not be too hard to make your own. So any paper weaving links are good- examples, projects or patterns.

Val, I'm glad you're going to see the rug and meet the seller. Please have Tryin' look at it, too, if you bring it home. There are too many unknowns when viewing a photograph, from a stranger, so any importance or unwarranted hesitation she places on you or questions you ask is silly. Is she worried you're looking for perfection? Esp since you've said she's been going back and forth on whether she wants to sell. I don't understand the remarks about ~who cares what condition it's in, if you love it~. Maybe there's undisclosed damage and she wants someone to just fall in love with it when they come out. I knew someone years back who had a villa-type house, dh an architect, and some of the old rugs were so tattered and worn. They were still very enjoyable though and the ambience in that house was awesome! Be sure to look the rug over completely, top and bottom, and list any defects or wear for you both to sign off on. That way, if you were to bring it back, she can't say -- oh, there's a spot here. (Remember she found one when on the floor with her grandchild.) I do agree that the rug works in your room, bringing a new look to the space (part of the fun of the finds!). Although I would have the pattern flowing towards the fireplace (leads to the focal and flows with point of entry) rather than sideways to the piano. Does it actually extend too far that way -- into the hall or something?

When my DS and his then-wife bought a very large house in CT, they bought (separate contract from the house) a great deal of the furniture, both indoor and outdoor. When they sold it 5 years later when they divorced, the new buyers wanted a few things. Unfortunately, they were things my DS was to get in the divorce and his wife agreed to this. Since the house had been on the market for 16 months and was selling for nearly $900,000 less than they paid for it, my DS did not make a stink. Wish he had gotten those club chairs, though! My parents bought several rugs in a house they purchased 47 years ago, and had previously bought a few things from a house they had bought in 1962. It's really quite common, and if the sale of the house is due to downsizing, it's an excellent way to sell furniture that is not needed or won't fit in a new residence.

Thanks so much, everyone. It has been rainy and chilly here today. Apparently farther north in SC they even got snow. I had expected to get the prizes mailed today, but I've just switched our TV service and they came out today to do the installation so I didn't get out the door except for here in the yard. The prizes will go out on Monday - and maybe tomorrow. There's a meeting I have been planning to attend, but we'll see if I get up and get myself moving early enough. If I don't go to the meeting, the little "post office store" I use most of the time is open until 1 p.m. Otherwise I'll head out with them on Monday. JOY is having such special friends here at FOTESS. Happy last day of January! CLEAN: Yes, one more. This is about books, especially paperback books. I read that most books cannot be recycled with paper recycling because of the glue used in the binding. I never tried to recycle any, but I probably would not have thought about that. If you are a book lover, you may do like I do and keep them for a long time. Guess what, some of the pages (especially paperbacks) get yellowed and brittle over time. Books that are in better condition can be donated to our local library and then they are sold to raise a bit of money for the library. If you are a reader you will know of other places that accept donated books. My report is that for the most part old paperbacks (and I still had a few from my days in college) are not fit for anything unless that specific book has a special meaning for you or is a rare collectible. I decided at some point that I would rather buy a book again or better yet borrow it from the library than read an old musty book that makes me sneeze. (Okay after that talk, I will need to go through my bookshelves again!) I've had fun with this theme and am glad you did, too. I certainly didn't get all of my cleaning projects completed, but the information did a lot to keep me motivated.

Susan, thank you for your generous prize package. I really feel like a winner! So many wonderful prizes. I apologize as I am not sure when it arrived as hubby and i packed up and went down to North Carolina and rented a cabin at a KOA. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we stayed an extra night. The seeds, the bulbs, flag, coloring book, coffee tea and more are all wonderful, (the coffee will be served tomorrow). I had a great time in the swap and you were an awesome host. Many thanks again!

How about just weaving quilling strips of different colors and widths to get a Madras effect?

That's funny, I was just at that icandream site y'day and I didn't see the one for the bird. I was going to post the fish one and the woven paper ball.

I found the bird diagram with google. Search engines can find pages that do not have links pointing to them.

This is the first time I've seen diagrams for the bird. I saw one once about 10 years ago and learned by reverse-engineering, but it's tough to show/explain to people what I'm doing, so I'm glad someone took the time to post instructions! :-o
