decrotive painting a mail box

i want to paint a cow on a mail box. i would like to use my oil paints. all i see posted for on the internet happens to be information on using acrylics. has anyone seen or know about using the oils? what would i seal the mailbox with if i do use oils? i know you can't use acrylic paints over oils...

No cow-painting advice, but a few light coats of a spray SPAR polyurethane/varnish would do the job. The paint itself would have to be dried for a few days/week+ first.

Oil-based spray polys will have an amber-cast to them however...
