Vinyl Safe Color Technology?

We're probably about out of time here in No. Va. for exterior painting, but trying to get a plan together....

I had heard that you can't paint exterior siding a darker color than the factory finish color. Does that mean you really truly can't go at all darker?

Also, in researching how to paint siding, I came across something on the Sherwin William website. It was called "VinylSafe Color Technology" and said that if you had this added certain types of the their exterior paints, you can go darker.

Has anyone heard of this? Does it seem to be true?

Thanks!

Anyone know if this has been around a few years, or is it "new"? Just a bit cautious as it sounds like a huge mess if in the past you painted your siding darker.
    Thanks!

I think they introduced that technology in 2006 and it's very dependable.

Resilience is a very nice choice for exterior siding.
