Hi all,

A simple question I hope, I haven't done this before so I wanted to make sure I don't screw up. I wanted to stain our front door (see the pictures attached) to a darker (cherry) shade from the present walnut. I wanted to know what are the steps to go about it.

Do I have to first use a chemical stripper/sanding to remove the existing finish? Is there any way I can apply the new stain over the existing one? Pros and cons of either method. I'd appreciate as much information as you can provide for this project.
