What is ra reasonable price for wallpaper removal plus paint?

I hope this question is appropriate for this for this forum. We are hiring a painter to remove wallpaper and paint a 15 by 15 bedroom.After getting estimates that have varied wildly from $ 550 to $ 1000, we are confused.We are supplying the paint.Please,please let me know.
We live in Southern California. The wallpaper was installed in 1990 in a then newly-built house.
