Surprise! A paint coverage, shading problem

The contractor closed in part of the doorway between living room and kitchen. It was nearly 9 feet wide, now it's just over 5 feet wide. He added new framing and drywall; more on the left side since that new "wall" has the air exchange for the new furnace.

He dry walled and mudded. He painted with primer, and added blown texture to try to match the old walls.

We painted. Two coats. Everything is beautiful, except...the paint that covers the new drywall is much lighter than the other walls. Very noticeable. Yesterday I painted the kitchen side with a third coat of paint and feathered into the old walls.

This morning the outline of the new drywall is still very visible.

What should I do?

Should I add another coat of darker primer to the new drywall area? Then paint the sage green over it?

Should I just keep adding coats of sage green to try to mask the drywall?

In this photo you can see the lighter area above and just to the left of the air exchanger opening.

The ceiling will be fixed later...when its the kitchen's turn for reworking.

Windows aren't trimmed yet; door to be replaced, and doesn't every one toss an old pair of jeans on the table? Sorry!

And here's the shadowing on the right side of the opening.

What can I do to fix this color problem?
