Clear finish over old paint?

Hello, I have this great old antique cupboard with paint partially removed - some of the original paint is still left on. I want to put a clear finish over - preferably something that is clear and not yellow like urethane. Will water based acrylic work over old oil based paint - or can you recommend something else?

The "modge podge" sort of finish works pretty well, and doesn't yellow.
