Not really. The problem with spray paint is that the paint is diluted so that it can be sprayed which affects the durability of the paint.

Yeah, the paint coating will be too thin - kitchen cabinets need more build.

you should be fine. Sounds like he has prepped it well. I personally would do a series of layers and build it up as spray paint is a bit thinner and less durable than bucket paint.

Perhaps finish it off with a few coats of clear coat lacquer to add some extra protection.
