Any quality paint and primer from a REAL paint store. Just go in and ask. Do NOT try this @ any big box place, you will probably get a blank stare.

If you want a higher-end look, check out a couple paints from FPE.
* Hollandlac Brilliant (Oil-based) is STUNNING.
* ECO Satin or Brilliant (Hybrid water-based) is very easy to use, and stunning as well.

Don't use TSP unless you're sure to rinse them thoroughly, especially if there are nooks and crannies to trap the TSP.

TSP residue prevents adhesion. I wouldn't take the risk.

Use Dirtex instead or Jasco TSP substitute.

OK, the cabinets are painted with Rustoleum Professional Exterior Gloss Enamel (Don't ask me why). They are rough, not smooth at all, so definitely require some sanding.

How big a deal is it to paint the either of following options:

1. an off-white -- do I need oil-based paint?

2. GF gel stain

3. Just use a deglosser and use the bond coat from Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations (I have enough left over of their step 2 pain)?

3. Just use a deglosser and use the bond coat from Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations (I have enough left over of their step 2 pain)? NO. Sand to dull with 180 grit and that will be your bonding coat.

When the cabinets are clean, dull and dust free, apply two coats of your preferred quality acrylic cabinet paint.
