I've scanned flowers so a coffee mug might not be impossible.

Take the mug in and see if they can do it.

You might need to degloss it first. A light misting of cheap (really CHEAP) hairspray will do it and can be washed off.

You may not get it close except by eye as the mug has sheen and is rounded so has light and shadow hitting it to affect the perceived color. You can try posting a pic of it and see what we can do on line. But your best bet is to take it to a good paint store and let the workers there work their magic. They can be really good at matching colors.

SOME scanners out there MAY be capable of "reading" a curved surface....but none I'm aware of!

Why....?
* Curved surfaces bounce light off at different angles...AWAY from the source.
* FLAT surfaces reflect light much more uniformly back to the source.
* By the "source", I mean the scanner's light-beam.
* Most scanners need the reflected light to bounce back into the sensor-chamber.
* A curved surface (or even a rough one...) would bounce too much light away from the sensors, therefore the result is waaayy less accurate.

I'm usually pretty damn good...but not THAT good!
