paint over wallpaper

Sixteen years ago I painted over impossible to remove wallpaper in four rooms of my house. It all still looks great except for one area of my dining room which is on the wall that encloses the dryer vent. I guess the heat and moisture ( I have since replaced the vent within the wall) loosened the glue and the paper has several large "waves" where it stands out from the wall. I still would like to keep my pretty paint. Would it work to just apply wall paper paste to those areas and "roll" them out? I am concerned that the wall paper, made thicker by three coats of paint, won't flatten out and stick as it should.
