| We have a set of steps going to the basement. They are unfinished pine but nice ones. As I finish the basement I have contemplated staining the steps but I assume after the stain is applied some sort of urathane would go on...but wouldn't this make the steps slippers and a hazard? |

| Varnish or urethane is not slippery - no more slippery than a wood floor or painted steps. If you are worried about traction, there are "skid proofing strips" you put on the treads. |
