red cedar shakes stain color

We had a red cedar shake garage built this summer. Our painter used PPG Sun-Proof alkyd/oil semi-transparent stain (Sierra 700)
It is too 'rusty' in color. Is there anything we can do? He sprayed it on -- did the stain separate? Anything we can do to change it?

we were going to put white trim on i, but now think it would look terrible

I think white trim would look perfect and provide a very nice contrast and even help tie the colors in together. You have to remember any semi-transparent stain on a RED cedar shingle will still show the red through quite a bit. Also I doubt very much that the stain separated at all as semi-transparent stains really do not have much to separate.
