We just moved into a brand new house last year. We have a mother in law suite that we had to add a door to a 2nd bedroom so it would be connected. It's a small door but we got it in there.
We had to use a 3 1/4 trim to fix the opening that was cut a little too big. (Doesn't match but oh well)

Anyway, I thought I'd surprise my husband by painting the trim. I used the paint that the house came with. It said "Trim" so I assumed it was okay to use. I applied one coat this morning and it doesn't look so good right now. I'm hoping when it dries it will look better.
But did I mess up by not using a base or did I not prep this properly?

Also we bought this door at Home Depot. And I need to pain this door too. What paint do I use?

(Sorry... my specialty is in the kitchen! lol)
